"Zero?" Yuuki called after knocking on the bathroom door. It had to be about two a.m., but she'd woken at the sound of Zero down the hall, choking and gagging over the sink with his little tin of blood tablets clenched tightly in his fist.
Her hand barely touched the cold, metal doorknob when she heard it click locked.
"Zero!" Yuuki cursed a bit louder. She heard a thud from inside as Zero slumped against the door and down to the floor.
"Let me in." She wiggled the doorknob, but the lock acted as the barrier between them that night.
Her only answer was a raspy cough followed by a few short, quick breaths.
"Damn it, Zero!" She banged her fists on the door so hard it hurt, but it wasn't budging.
"Zero!" Yuuki felt angry tears break free from her eyes as she slid to the floor in front of the door.
Zero could hear each of her tears drip to the floor, but he wasn't letting her in. His head rested against the door, opposite where she now sat. He could even feel her warmth through the wood of the door.
But she felt nothing from him but sorrow. Heard nothing but pained gasps. There was a quiet clatter as his tin of blood tablets opened on the floor, a few of the pills falling out, one rolling it's way under the door to Yuuki's side.
"Zero?" Yuuki called again, taking the tablet between her fingers. No answer. She clenched the pill in her fist until she fell asleep, sitting there, leaning against the door.
"Yuuki?" Zero whispered quietly, allowing his own eyes to slip closed. "Thankyou."
And as he drifted into sleep himself, on the opposite side of that door, he could make out Yuuki's lazy whisper, "Sure thing, Zero."
The True Barrier, End.
