She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
Until the night
After Raven kicked him out, he went to the pub located under her apartment and ordered himself something strong to try to drown the pain. As he sat there, he knew what he had to do. After several more drinks, he stumbled out of the pub doors towards home, the weight of what he had to do, bearing down on him with every step he took.
He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I'll love her till I die And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby
I just couldn't believe it happened, until I was standing over his grave. I didn't realize exactly how hurt he was until it was too late. I wanted to turn and run, but all I could do was stand there, not bothering to wipe the tears from my eyes. In the distance, I could hear children singing their whiskey lullaby,
"lalalalalalala
lalala lalalala
lalalalalalala
lalalalalalala"
The rumors flew but nobody know how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
Until the night
I couldn't live with myself after that day. Every time I tried to fall asleep, he was always right there in my dreams. I would go out with the gang, and come home so wasted I couldn't see straight or think clearly. I knew what I had to do that night after coming home. There was no point in me living anymore, since I pushed my true love so far away that he killed himself.
She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby
We stood around her grave, not willing to accept the fact that she was dead. We still don't really know why she did it, but we k now that, wherever she is, she's in a better place, away from pain and suffering, away from the darkness. As we walked away from her grave, I felt something like a hand on my shoulder. "What's up BB?" asked Cy, as we walked away. "I fe- it was nothing, nothing at all," I said, putting my hand down. I knew it was Raven and Robin, looking down from wherever they are. In the distance, we could hear what sounded like children singing softly,
"lalalalalalala
lalalalala lala
lalalalalalala
lalalalalalala"
