"I want to sleep."
Judith sighed gently, allowing Joan to put her head on her shoulder. She gently stroked back Joan's hair, noting the slight warmth of her forehead. God how long had it been since Joan had actually slept?
"I know you do Jo-Jo. The stupid camp therapists are just trying to get some sleep themselves. You kind of freaked them out with that nightmare last night," whispered Judith, trying to keep Joan awake for awhile longer. She thought this could be a form of cruelty, keeping a camper awake just because you couldn't sleep with her nightmares.
"I can't make the nightmares go away," she whispered, her voice quiet, too quiet, but even with the quiet tone Judith could still hear the hints of sadness in her friends voice.
"I know you can't. Nobody's asking you to. Tell you what, go to sleep Jo-Jo. Don't worry about these freaks. You need to be able to get some sleep," whispered Judith, gently gesturing for Joan to lie on the bed. The two had decided to form a sleepover of sorts since Judith's other roommate had demanded to switch rooms.
"But the councilors- the therapists-
Judith cut her off, gently placing a kiss to her forehead and pulling a blanket over her friend. She smiled when she saw Joan's eyes begin to close.
"Just sleep. I'm right here. I'll be here if the nightmare comes back Jo-Jo," whispered Judith, stroking Joan's hair back one last time before going to her own bed.
"Thank you Judith," whispered Joan, her voice slurred from exhaustion and Judith smiled slightly.
"Anytime Jo-Jo. Anytime"
A/n: Just a short little ficlet that popped into my head when I read an article about a summer camp for mentally disturbed teenagers was being investigated after reports of forcing teens with nightmares to stay awake all night while therapists slept. Anyways, I hope you enjoy!
