Author's Notes: This one-shot is one that came to me while I wasn't even watching a Harry Potter movie. I hope you will all enjoy my tale. Takes place at #12 Grimmauld Place, before Harry goes to Hogwarts for the first time.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter or Sirius Black. Both characters and any others you may meet are the property of J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros.
Should I Ever Lose You…A Harry Potter One-Shot by Sarah

Harry sat in the room he was sharing with Ron, lost in thought. He was mainly thinking of Sirius and how depressed he seemed to be. Now, Harry was no psychologist, but he knew enough to identify the early signs of depression. What he could do to cheer Sirius up, he didn't know, but Harry was determined to use the little time he had left at #12 Grimmauld Place to make Sirius feel better.
While he was thinking about all of this, there came a knock at the door. Harry jumped; he had been so lost in his thoughts that he had not realized anyone was at the door. Quickly performing the anti-locking spell on the door, he opened it to reveal Remus Lupin. Lupin came in and sat down on the bed beside Harry.
"I just wanted to tell you dinner will be ready within fifteen minutes," Lupin said.
"Okay," said Harry. "Where's Sirius?"
"He's already at the table," Lupin smiled.
Lupin got up then, leaving Harry to his thoughts. Harry watched him go, and sighed as he thought of Sirius and his depression. When the fifteen minutes were up, Harry left the room and went to the kitchen. He sat down next to Sirius, who gave him a tired smile.
After dinner was over, Sirius almost ran out of the room. Harry was tempted to follow him, but what if there was nothing to worry about? Harry sat at the table for almost a half-hour before deciding to see what Sirius was up to. He soon found out that Sirius had retreated to his old room and had put a locking spell on the door. Harry knocked on the door, but there was no answer.
"Sirius?" Harry said. "It's me, Harry. I just want to talk to you."
Sirius didn't answer. He knew that if he did, he would end up even more of a blubbering mess, and he didn't want to cry all over Harry like some little kid.
"Sirius?" said Harry. "If you don't open your door right now, I'll just have to unlock it myself and burst in on you!"
That had gotten to Sirius. He whispered the counter spell, and the door opened. Harry walked in…and got a shock. Sirius was hugging his pillow as if letting go would kill him, and he was also crying as if his heart was broken.
For a moment, Harry was too taken aback to say anything to Sirius. However, after about a minute of silence, Harry walked over to Sirius and took the pillow out of Sirius' arms. He then sat on the bed and wrapped his arms around Sirius.
They sat in silence for a long time, Harry rubbing Sirius' back and Sirius resting his head on Harry's shoulder.
"Sirius?" said Harry. "Why are you acting like this?"
Sirius swallowed. "It's this place. I can't be here for long periods of time without having flashbacks into my childhood. Also, when the flashbacks happen, they make me very depressed."
"Did you tell all this to Dumbledore?" Harry asked.
"No," said Sirius. "I haven't."
"Well, I think you should," said Harry. "Maybe he'll let you leave for awhile."
"Maybe I will," Sirius said.
The two got up and before they knew what had happened, they were locked in a tight embrace. Harry buried his face in Sirius' sweater.
"I don't know what would happen should I ever lose you," Harry murmured against Sirius' collarbone.
"Don't worry. That will never happen," Sirius soothed.
Little did they know what would happen in a matter of months…
