Author's Notes: This was written during a drabble tree challenge, from the sentence "Rebuilding would take months."

The Right Call

"They don't want our help," Vala pointed out. "We should just go."

Infuriatingly, Vala was probably right. Jackson nodded his agreement, which only irritated Cam further. Jackson and Vala never agreed about anything-except, apparently, this. Only Cam didn't want to go.

The damage to the village was significant. Many lives had been lost. Rebuilding would take months. The villagers had responded violenty to SG-1's presence, which Cam couldn't really blame them for. Outside influence of the Ori had done this, and the people here would probably fear and hate strangers for generations to come.

"You know if I thought we could help I'd be the first one to advocate staying," Jackson added. Cam nodded, accepting the truth in the statement. "We'll only make things worse."

The colonel looked to Teal'c and Sam; both remained silent, waiting for a decision, though it seemed they all knew what the right call to make was.

"All right," Cam said with a sigh and turned his back to the village. "Head out." He hated situations like this, when making the right call felt so thoroughly like the wrong action. Though, he told himself, they couldn't help where it was not wanted. His team followed him back to the gate in silence.
