A/N: Before I do anything else, I must apologize ahead of time for any possible mistakes I've made with this. This is the first time I've ever posted anything on this site, and I'm still learning to navigate it.
This certain piece is something I wrote a few years ago in order to complete an English assignment. After much persuading from friends, I decided to post it here in order to get some feedback from you readers.
Without further ado, here it is...
Disclaimer: I do not own the novel To Kill A Mockingbird or any of the characters within it. Harper Lee does.
Hope
I feel the darkness silently taking over
I feel the world around me slowly growing colder
I begin to fear of the things in the dark
Stalking me, waiting to leave their painful mark
He starts to laugh, in his drunken stupor
My heart stops, fearing my near future
And it happens again, the pain killing me
I pretend it's not who I know it to be
As I sit alone, calling upon Death
Thinking of the words to say with my last breath
My thoughts drift to the geraniums, red as blood
New life hidden within them in the form of buds
They give me a reason, a will to go on living
Denying Death the life I had intended on giving
And so I go on with hope in my heart
Hope that I might someday get a new start
