Alone.
A/N I feel like this this the first Nick/Macy I've written in ages (apart from LA, Baby, which was technically a Nick/Macy/Kevin anyway.) But Celine Dion is one of my favourite artists and I was singing this song earlier and this just sort of … hit me.
Dedicated to Kendra, for being the best room Mom - EVER. :D
I hear the ticking of the clock,
I'm lying here the room's pitch dark.
I wonder where you are tonight…
It was one am the last time Macy had looked at the clock and she felt as though it had been hours ago. Every second she heard another moment of her life tick away, she waited for her husband to return. Where was he? She didn't know. He'd gone on many business meetings in the past few months and this wasn't the first time she had laid in bed, awake all night praying, hoping, wanting to be wrong.
But she knew she wasn't.
No answer on the the night goes by so very ,
I hope that it won't end though,
Alone…
Macy pulled her phone from under the pillow and winced as the bright screen illuminated the pitch black room. Nothing. Not a missed call, not a text. Just two faces staring back at her. Hers bright and smiling like the sun shining on her, her hands around his waist and then him, with almost smile as he stood under the shade of a tree, his sun glasses on and his hands in his pockets. She wished to herself that tonight would be different from his other 'business trips'. That tonight he'd come home and cuddle up next to her and tell her how much he loved her.
But she knew that wasn't going to happen.
You don't know how long I have wanted,
to touch your lips and hold you, don't know how long I have waited,
and I was going to tell you tonight.
Macy let herself slip away into slumber as she remembered back to that Summer in High School where she finally built up the courage to tell him everything she'd always felt for him. Since before she'd ever met him, she'd loved him. And she chanted to herself that she was going to tell him. That she was going to make him know, make him see how much he meant to her. And she hoped he'd tell her the same thing, in return.
But, even then, she knew that wasn't going to happen.
But the secret is still my own,
and my love for you is still …
She didn't tell him. She didn't have to.
He'd beaten he to it. He had told her first. And she'd memorized everything about the moment. His clothes, his smell, where they were and, most importantly, what he'd said. Even the way he'd told her had been amazing.
"Till now," He said, taking her hands in his. "I always got by on my own." His eyes filled with something she didn't recognise. And then he said it."I never really cared, until I met you."
That was all it took. And she was his. She'd promised him forever. He'd promised the same.
But now, looking back, she realised that, even then, she knew that wasn't going to happen.
And now it chills me to the bone.
She shivered as cold tears ran down her face. All she wanted was one last night where she was his everything. Where she was his world. Where she was his love.
But… She knew that wasn't going to happen.
How do I get you alone?
A/N. Everything in italics are lyrics of 'Alone' by Celine Dion. I do not own them.
Happy Summer! :D
