Tour de Fiction Competition - Round Three
Mirror of Erised
It was strange, looking at those two figures in the mirror that were awfully familiar yet absolute strangers.
He could sometimes hear their voices in his dreams, their desperation in their last few minutes of life. They had died so that he could live.
They had sacrificed their lives for him, yet he did not know them.
They were merely strangers that looked like him.
He had known of their existence his entire life, yet he did not know them. Even their sacrifice was something he had only recently learned about, despite the high cost.
The Dursleys had told him that they had died in a car crash. Hagrid had told him otherwise upon his re-entry into the wizarding world.
Somehow he almost wished that they had died in a car crash. That would stop the guilty feeling inside him about not knowing anything about them.
Surely they had friends though? Or people who knew them, well other than Hagrid and Snape. Snape seemed to hate him for no true reason, he would never be able to ask him about his parents while Hagrid tended to get rather teary whenever recounting a memory about his parents.
Surely his mother and father would have had best friends that he could talk to and find out more about them? He wanted to make his parents proud, but he did not know how.
