…
"Who's going to put in the extra time?" demanded Kirova."You?"
Dimitri's argument came to an abrupt stop. "Well, that's not what I—"
Kirova crossed her arms with satisfaction. "Yes. That's what I thought."
"Yes," he said finally. "I can mentor Rose. I'll give her extra sessions along with her normal ones."
I looked at Kirova, who seemed to be thinking of another reason against keeping me at St. Vladimirs Academy. Hearing Lissa cry was breaking my heart. If Kirova expelled me now we both knew there were zero chances of me ever being her guardian.
"Where is she gonna stay? The girl dhampire dorm is full."
Dimitri looked like he wanted to object. Kirova crossed her arms and smiled. Lissa started crying louder and I knelt down next to her, pulling her in a tight hug. I looked at Dimitri over her shoulder and held his gaze for a second before turning back to Lissa, trying to calm her down.
Then Dimitri spoke again: "She can share a room with me."
Kirova looked at him like he had lost his damn mind and Lissa lifted her head, looking at Dimitri and then back at Kirova with hope in her eyes. She cleared her throat and said:
"I think that is a great idea. Since Guardian Belikov is my sanctioned guardian and Rose is going to be one sooner or later - "
Lissa was cut off by Kirova, who knew there is no way we were going to back down in this fight.
"Fine! She can stay but she is your responsibility Guardian Belikov. I expect you'll keep her out of trouble. If she steps out of line once you're both leaving. Have I made myself clear?"
"Crystal."
Lissa squished me in her tight embrace and kissed the top of my head. I looked at her and smiled, wiping her tears away. After Kirova recited every rule in the book to us and made more threats of expelling us if we go against any of her demands, she sent us on our way to get settled in.
When we were standing in the hallway, Lissa hugged Dimitri and he awkwardly hugged her back. She had a big grin on her face when she let go of him.
"Thank you for standing up for Rose. We promise to be on our best behavior."
"I hope she won't make me regret my decision."
As I was about to give him a piece of my mind Lissa nudged me and gave me a hard look. I sighed and looked back at Dimitri.
"Thank you."
