Changed Desires
For Jaddddddddddddddde! Happy Belated B'day, m'dear. Love you.
He's Malfoy, she's Granger.
She's Hermione, he's Draco.
They're two completely different people, both believe in different things. Nothing will ever make them change, and nothing will ever make them fall in love with each other. That doesn't mean that he can't admire, desire, her from far away, and vice versa.
She's Muggleborn, he's Pureblood.
Completely different.
He's stopped calling her Mudblood, only using the name when he needs to prove his worth to the Slytherins. He's learnt his lesson, Hermione Granger is the type of girl nobody messes with.
If he were to really admire one of her many qualities, he'd admire her strength. Despite everything, despite all the odds stacked against her, she'll never give up.
Unlike him.
He'll give up when it all gets too hard, it's in his nature. He's a Malfoy, a self-centred Malfoy who has grown lazy from the years of lounging around in luxury. And he's never going to change, unless a wand is pointed to the back of his head and his death is near.
She's a Muggleborn witch who has defied all the odds to become the smartest witch of her generation, beating out the likes of Pureblood such as him, Pureblood's who have been educated in the ways of magic to the high degree possible. He envies her smarts, it's totally unfair that no matter how hard he strives to achieve the best grades, she'll always be one chapter, one spell, one theory ahead of him.
She's a bit like a jug full of dirty water in a way, a jug tempting his thirst simply by being there. He knows he shouldn't drink it because who knows what impurities could be contained in the dirty water, and what sicknesses he might encounter, but his desire for the feeling of the water sliding down his parched throat, however dirty, is too much to resist. In the real world though, he knows that if he even so much as touches that jug filled with dirty water, his whole facade will shatter and smash into pieces against the floor, leaving him bare to the world.
Without even knowing it, Hermione Granger has started to change him. He doesn't know how, he doesn't know when, but somehow someway, he's started to change. Unwillingly of course, he wants nothing more than to keep the prejudiced old Malfoy who could command his friends with a click of his fingers, but times have changed and so have his desires.
He's craving the taste of dirty water sliding down his throat, and he's going to do anything in his now-limited power to achieve it.
