Drabble – Forward

Two young boys walked through the wooded and rocky valley. They were only five year olds but you could never tell that from their demeanor. The world was theirs to conquer and they were just the men to do it. They had come to a place where the path parted. The smaller of the two, in stature only, looked the situation over and then pointed to his left and said loudly "forward."

He was stopped in his tracks when his slightly taller and slightly older companion said simply "no".

"Did you just say 'no'?

Dark hair shaking as he shook his head, the other confirmed what he just heard.

"I'm the leader you have to follow me."

"No I don't."

The smaller boys' face began to turn a little red. "Yes you do, I'm a prince remember you are supposed to obey all of my commands."

"No I don't even if you are a prince. Cause I swore to defend and protect you from danger, even when you are doing dumb things that could hurt you."

"What dumb things?"

"Going forward that way is dumb, that way is better." He said pointing to the right.

The boys stood eye to eye for a minute looking at each other, a frown on one face and determination on the other. Finally the young prince looked away and towards the paths in front of them. He turned to look back into the blue eyes of his friend and nodded.

"K, we'll go this way this time but from now on you have to do everything I say."

"No"

"Oh, Hephaestion!"

"But I promise I will always give you a good reason why I wouldn't do it. How is that?"

"Why are you so stubborn?" He said as started down the path to the right.
