Date Night
D/C: not my show or characters, just borrowing them. I promise to return them unharmed
Elena flopped down on the sofa next to Damon, narrowly avoiding bumping the bowl of popcorn off his lap, and picked up the DVD case, she read the title 'True Blood', and groaned. "Seriously?" she asked raising an eyebrow. "Remind me why I let you pick?"
"I my audience, I know what gets you going," Damon teased.
"Because there aren't enough blood suckers in my life," Elena replied drily.
"Hey it's good," Damon defended.
"You watch this?" Elena questioned.
"I can relate."
"Who too?"
"This guy, Eric, he's a bad ass vampire and he's smart but somehow she spends the first three seasons running around after some sulky loser vampire who, may I add, who runs off with his maker."
"Really? Maybe the bad ass vampire was full of himself and needed to be a little more sensitive and understanding," Elena shot back.
"I haven't gotten to season four, that's when he loses his memory and becomes this giant woose and suddenly the girl falls for him."
"Because he's all sexy and vulnerable?" Elena raised an eyebrow.
"I thought you hadn't seen it."
"Just guessing," Elena smirked. Damon's heart would have skipped a beat if it still beat.
"But wouldn't it have been better if she'd loved him from the beginning, for who he really was."
"Maybe who he really was wasn't just the bad ass or the woose, maybe who he really is, is both, and she had to get to know all of him before she could fall in love," Elena philosophised, batting her eyelids and then snatching a handful of popcorn, her hands brushing Damon's. There was that spark, they both shivered.
"Maybe," Damon agreed. "But look at that hair, as if a real bad ass would be blonde like that?"
"He is pretty easy on the eye," Elena teased.
"Give me a break, if blondes were your type you'd have gone running back to little Matty Donovon months, if not years ago."
"Not everything is about attraction Damon."
"No but it helps," Damon returned, wiggling his dark eyebrows. Elena had to agree. It made things complicated, the way he made her heart race, but it also made her feel alive, it made a DVD and popcorn seem like a pretty amazing way to spend a Friday night. Who needs date night when you've got Damon, popcorn and a DVD?
