Agent Everette Ross remembered being shot and he remembered something else being placed on the injury to his back, but what that was he could not know.
It didn't take long for Ross to wake up after being treated for his injury by Shuri, the Black Panther's kid sister, but when he did wake up he wasn't expecting to see what changes had happened to his body.
Putting a hand to the side of his aching head he opened his eyes and tried to move his legs. Feeling his legs respond he sighed in relief and felt a strange pressure in his stomach. He tried to sit up but an unexpected weight kept him laying flat on his back.
"What in the..."
Putting both of hands out he touched the swollen mound of his stomach. His flesh was pulled taut as a heavy pressure and weight seemed to build up in his stomach.
"What happened?!"
Shuri was working at her desk in her lab when she heard Ross screaming.
"Don't panic!"
"Don't PANIC?! Look at me! My stomach! I look like I'm going to EXPLODE."
"No you're not. At least not yet."
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?!"
"I saved your life."
"Is THIS a part of it?!"
Ross kept rubbing his hands over his massive stomach.
"No. But I needed a guinea pig for an experiment and you were already in my lab."
"EXPERIMENT?!"
"Relax. It'll be over in an hour. I was hoping you'd stay asleep until it was all over. Oh well, next time I'll use drugs."
"Who are you and what did you to me?"
"My name is Shuri. King T'Challa's sister and Princess of Wakanda. I also saved your life by removing the bullet from your back. So you're welcome."
"And this?" Ross patted his stomach.
"This is a great honor. You see, our technology is advanced and superior in many ways but even we are incapable of perfecting medicine. At least for now."
"Please, just tell me what's going on! I'm huge! I look like I'm... I'm..."
"Pregnant?"
"Yes!"
"Well that makes sense. Because you are."
"I'm... what now?"
"Pregnant." Shuri put her hand on his stomach. "Twins."
"Tw-Twins?! WHY?!"
"Well, I've been trying to find a way to help our Wakandan women who have difficulty in conceiving and maintaining their pregnancies carry their children to term. Despite all of our knowledge and our technology we cannot force a body to maintain a healthy pregnancy if said body is suffering from chronic illness or trauma. So my solution is to look at alternative bodies to be used."
"Meaning... men? Male bodies."
"Yes. You catch on quick."
"While I respect your work and I appreciate you saving my life, I can't condone doing this to me while I was unconscious!"
A kick from within his massive stomach made Ross jump and his heart race.
"It moved..."
"Yeah. They tend do that."
"Why me?"
"I needed a male subject. After I ran a scan to check your body for any other injuries I discovered that your blood type is compatible with my recommended data."
"...So you used my body, without my permission, for science?"
"Yes."
"This is very reminiscent of a particularly dark line of work that came out of World War II..."
"This is NOT eugenics!"
"No?
"No! To simplify things I decided that if a woman's body is incapable of carrying a child to term them perhaps a man's body can! We can implant the fetus from the mother's womb into a faux womb inside the father's body until it is safe the deliver! You're proof of concept!"
"I'm-" Another kick made Ross stop talking.
"And before you ask the twins inside your body were implanted because of an emergency."
"Emergency?"
"A woman from our village had been injured in a fall. She was at risk of losing her children and her husband had died after being mauled while on a hunt several months ago. We couldn't bear for her to lose her entire family."
"I guess I can fault you for that." Ross put his hand back to his stomach as the twins kicked again. "Ow."
"Then you're okay with this?"
"Not really, but I won't make that woman suffer. And you did save my life, so... yeah."
"I promise you I hadn't intended for this to happen when T'Challa brought you to my lab. This is just temporary. The twins are almost to term but we needed to make sure they were as stable as possible before being born. Just another hour will give them a fighting chance."
"Fine. One hour." Ross propped himself up on his elbows and stared at his stomach with wide eyes. "No longer!"
"Deal! Now, lay back and rest. You're spine has been healed but the weight in your front could still cause back to your back."
"Shuri?"
"Yes?"
"Do NOT tell ANYONE about this! I already have two kids, my wife wouldn't be thrilled with the idea of me running off to a secret country on a different continent and having another woman's children! She might get ideas..."
Shuri laughed as she stepped away from Ross. "You are a good man Agent Ross. Do not worry, it'll be over soon."
"I hope so." Ross put both hands on his stomach and felt the squirming kicks of the twins. "Just don't grow up and let hate cloud your judgement, okay?"
"Do not worry. Their mother is kind and no one here will isolate them for their unique birth."
"That's-" More kicks stopped him short as well as a sudden cramp in his lower stomach. "Uh... Something's happening."
Shuri returned her hand to his stomach and began a scan. "One hour. Your body has become aware of this unusual implantation and is beginning to react."
"L-Labor? Can you stop it?"
"Of course. You do not have the necessary organs to delivery naturally anyway."
"D-Deliver?! No way! Not me!"
"Calm down. This information is invaluable. Just try to relax and ignore the contractions. They will be painful but nothing will happen."
"Will there be an lasting... side effects?"
"Possibly."
"POSSIBLY?!"
"Same can be said for any procedure!"
"What KIND of side effects?"
"Well, since we all start out inherently female in the womb and both genders naturally produce both hormones: estrogen and testosterone, it's entirely possible that after this is over your own body could begin producing progesterone and would make it entirely possible for you to conceive and carry children of your own!"
"I could... get pregnant?"
"Yes. But only if you engage with another man!"
"Well, my wife is not a man..."
"Then there's nothing to worry about." Shuri have Ross an odd look. "Is there?"
Ross blushed a little. "Not since college..."
"White boys." Shuri scoffed.
"OW!" Another contraction tore through Ross's abdomen.
"I'll get you something for the pain. Just relax and try not to think about it."
"Yeah, sure." Ross rubbed his stomach impatiently as he felt the swell of his abdomen tighten and relax rhythmically with additional contractions. "Easy."
