Author's note:

Hi there. Thank you for checking out this story. I'll give you a brief explanation of the setting and characters to bring you up to speed.

The new character I introduce comes into contact with the characters from the show in Season 3, Episode 1. Read on to know more about her. If you do find her to be less interesting, feel free to skip her chapters; you'll be able to tell with a quick skim. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy.

If you want to jump right into Clexa, chapter 5 is where they enter the story. You can jump ahead if you want, but be aware that you might be confused about the new character I added; Veda.

This is my first fanfiction story so I look forward to your comments and questions.

Happy reading.

The girl jerks up, gasping. It was dark, with only a few lights flickering, silently casting shadows from a nearby monitor. She hears a soft beeping nearby. Sweat slicks her brow as a chill runs down her spine. She peers into the dark, her arms finally coming into focus. They were trembling and they were... red. Blood was slowly pooling from a cut in her left palm but she doesn't feel pain. After a moment, she looks past her hand and finds broken glass glinting back at her.

Her thoughts are thick and slow. She hates the weighing lethargy and forces her brain to focus.

"There will be side effects," she remembers a voice instructing her. "You should prepare yourself for a rough awakening."

The girl shakes her head lightly, forces her shaking hands to grab the side of her pod, and pulls herself out. Her weakened body gives way immediately and she sinks to the ground with a grunt. A wave of nausea hits her, yet she somehow manages to contain herself. She lays there for a moment, finding relief in the floor's cold tiling.

Her brain begins to awaken and questions begin to form in her mind. Mainly, she wonders why she can't hear any voices and why nobody has come to her assistance. Where am I?

Her last memories flash in her mind; a pretty red head voicing a long list of warnings, side effects and instructions. Doctors were meant to aid them through the awakening. Her gut sinks and she lifts her head to look around, but she sees nothing but darkness around her. Something else is troubling her, though.

The utter silence. Not only are there no human noises, but there isn't any humming machinery either. Everything is still, and all she can hear is her speeding heartbeat and quickening breath. Something isn't right.

Steadily, she grabs the pod's edge and, leaning heavily against it, pushes herself onto her feet. Looking around now, her vision is blurry, but has begun to adjust to the dark. The room she's in is small and circular. Pods line the wall, and a bundle of lad equipment stand in the center of the room. The thick metal door has a small slate of a window, but she can't see anything past it. Her stomach twists when she sees the thick number "8" painted by the door.

She was in this room before they put her under. What is going on? Where is everyone?

Jefferson, she remembers suddenly. Her eyes snap to his pod. It is still, and unmoving. Summoning all her strength, she makes her way to her friend. As she arrives, she leans against it, and peers into the small window that frames his face.

His features are still and pale. His skin wraps tightly around his face and his cheeks are sunken in. Her gut sinks, but she pushes her instincts away. She presses one ear against his pod and when she doesn't hear anything, scans his machinefor any source of light. None catches her attention and a lump forms in her throat.

Her mind reaches for the latest memory she has of Jefferson: a dumb grin on his face as he pats her on the shoulder. "Veda, don't worry. This will go well. I'll see you on the other side." He wears his eager smile, and taps his fingers on a guardrail like a drum set.

A quick stinging sensation crawls into her eyes, tears welling in her lashes, but she wipes them away. She turns to the lab equipment in the center of the room. She needs answers, now.

She saunters to the large monitor as her eye sting. She feels her cheeks getting wet, but ignores the feeling, while tapping a few keys, creating small clicking noises in the dark. After a few despairing moments, the tower of tech hums to life. The monitor flares and a load up sequence initiates.

Immediately, the program demands for an implant input. Her mind is foggy, yet she tries to calm herself to get answers. Instead, she is bombarded with images of her family, and friends. She desperately pushes them aside to focus. Think, she orders herself.

She thinks hard and suddenly it hits her. Every one of them had been implanted with an id chip. It probably did more than they told her, but she couldn't worry about that now. It was in her wrist, if she remembered correctly.

The cryo-suit she wears shouldn't inhibit the devices signal, she thinks, so she hovers her wrist above the small rectangular pillar. A small green light comes on with a beep!

The computer accepts her registration and a voice comes online.

"Welcome, DZ-1178925. Thorne, Veda. Commencing rebirth subroutine."

Veda releases the breath she's been holding. The lights above her head switch on, blinding her momentarily and she can hear buzzing going off around her as the lab equipment is booted up. The edge of her lips tug into a soft smile as she looks around the room.

"Alert."

She spins to face the monitor.

"Numerous emergency sequences in effect. Station-wide alert. Code white in effect," the voice incessantly rants at her, making her heart pound. "Will all personnel please make their way to their ESS pods. Code white in effect. Proceed to…"

Then, at that very moment, standing in the quiet, abandoned lab, it hits her.

Code white? She thinks. War. That means war.
