A Conflict in the Depths of Oblivion
Ages past, thoughts spread across galaxies. A golden web, their arms crossed the void of space, probing, seeking, and learning. Other minds touched the threads.
Then the spiders followed to their prey and drained them into dry husks.
These spiders only sometimes resembled spiders. Life was not their only commodity, as they stole appearances as well as power. Eight legs, six legs, or four mattered not.
Their golden threads could reach across the stellar expanse, but beyond the astral plane, they reached ever forward…and met a hunger much like their own.
Stretched across different planes of existence, these interdimensional specters heard the golden song and fed on it. Drawn by these golden threads, they reached across velvet sheets of space-time and slid in.
Thus the war of galaxies began.
The invaders, the extradimensional interlopers, met the spidery dominion in space, on land, and across vast stretches. Mind against mind, form against form, weapon against energy, hunger against hunger. Asteroids crumbled, stars flared, and dimensions folded. Dust screamed in the silent reaches of space.
Eventually, both sides reached an impasse. Desperate in impulsive, yet calculating, drive, the two sides fielded their remaining forces in a new epicenter of conflict.
Amidst the distortions of space, energy, and mental fields, a blue flash of power ignited across the expanse. Coils of deleterious essence spilled from the gap, and the specters and spiders sank deep into space, shredded to oblivion.
One specter managed to escape the carnage, binding onto an ancient ship for support.
A spider burned across the reaches of space, fleeing a hunger more enigmatic than its own. Crashed on the barren surface of a harsh land, the spider sprouted and shrieked one word.
"Gorea!"
