Prologue

Birds were calling overhead and the smell of freshly cut grass was present as Charlotte jogged down the sidewalk. It was a pleasant early September morning, with promises of another hot and humid day ahead. Charlotte always had enjoyed her morning runs, waving and smiling at her neighbors as she went. Even stopping to pet a few of the friendly dogs she passed. Charlotte wished desperately for her own dog, but was unable to have a dog at her current apartment complex. She had always loved the outdoors and having a dog to take camping would make all of her adventures better. Growing up her family had always taken their dogs camping. Sadie and Bear were two peas in a pod that she and her brother fondly chased after. No matter what, her parents always seemed to find the four of them splashing around in some creek or other. Perhaps she should look into moving. Being young and single left her with endless opportunities to leave. Charlotte has always dream of starting over in a different town. A place she could explore and meet knew people. Perhaps even find a job she enjoyed, that didn't involve answering phone calls all day. Maybe Charlotte could actually find a job that used her love for outdoors, maybe leading kayaking tours or backpacking excursions. Yeah, that would be the dream. Charlotte was so lost in her thoughts, she didn't even notice the squealing tires of a truck and the yells of those around her. She was oblivious to all. One minute jogging peacefully, the next completely crushed by the pick up. Charlotte was lucky; she never felt any pain, just the comforting feel of blackness as it washed over her.

Birds were calling overhead and the smell of the forest in fall was ever present. Faramir had woken up from the most bizarre dream and needed to get out and clear his mind. To try and make sense of the inexplicable things shown to him, for it seemed almost impossible. Some things were easy to recognize; the people, a few dogs, and the trees that seemed to line a street. But that was where "ordinary" ended. The main woman in his dream was scantily dressed as she jogged down the streets. He could hardly believe that anyone would go out in public dressed in so little! He would even go so far as to the say she was barely dressed in under garments! The people she passed while jogging did not seem bothered by it all though. They even smiled and waved to her. Some even calling out a good morning. Those people too were dressed in a strange fashion. The men and women were both showing off their arms and legs for everyone to see. On top of the peculiar clothing there were extraordinary metal things moving along the streets with people sitting inside of them. It was fascinating how quickly they moved and how convenient those would be for traveling long distances. Cringing, Faramir was reminded how the dream ended, and just how dangerous those metal machines could be.

All of that though wasn't the most disturbing part of his dream. It was the fact that he watched this young lady die by one of those metal cages. The metal cage slammed into her and it was almost as if time had slowed. He watched her body responded, bending in an unnatural way. Her neck twisting sharply. He felt sick has he heard her neck snap. Her body was flung to the side as the metal cage continued on until it slammed into a stone wall. Faramir had jerked awake, heart hammering in his chest. He still couldn't make sense of what all had happened. Most of dreams were blurs of pictures, ever moving and hard to grasp. Or sometimes they were nightmares of old horrors coming back to haunt him. However, this dream was different. It had felt real.

So real in fact, he was starting to question his sanity. If the dream had been real, what was it trying to tell him? For certainly there was purpose behind such a strange dream. He would have to ponder it later though. With the sun starting to rise, he would have to prepare to give orders out to his rangers. As a newly instated Captain, he wanted to do his job well.

AN: Hi there. This is just something that has been floating around in my head... Not sure if I'll continue or not. We shall see where it takes me! Let me know your thoughts!
