Author's Note – I'm the first one to tell you that I don't know what this is. I don't know what I'm going to do with it, if anything. I just thought I would put it out there to see what everyone thought. Feedback is appreciated. Don't be surprised to see the title changed if I decide to continue this.

Ordinary Day

Prologue - Mary

She sat smiling at the man in front of her, loving him as she had done all her life. It was the only thing that she had ever known, looking deep into his blue eyes and knowing that no matter what would happen, he would be there. There had once been someone else, but she was gone. She had broken her promise.

The girl stood up, holding tightly onto his hand, and walked towards the front of the room. A thousand thoughts and memories and colors flashed through her mind as she took each step, and as they got closer he released her. She continued walking, noticing how the daylight flooded into the room through the windows, splashing bits of the floor with an uncharacteristic yellow.

The wood was smooth under her fingers, polished clean by hands that never knew the woman lying in front of her. They had never known the beauty and the mystery that she was, never had her chocolate chip cookies, never admired just how much she loved her child.

She stood trembling, stretching out her small arms as far as they could reach, grasping for any remnant of the spirit that she once knew.

A hand gently ran through her hair, and she knew it was time. She turned, crying, and left the room with him. The clearest memory she would be left with from that day was seeing his shoulders shake, his breath uneven and desperate, and hearing him whisper those last few words.

"I love you, Mary."
