AN: This one's a NejiTen fic I made for a deviantart club called Nejitenplz. It's not being part of the oneshot series Ascension because I made it for the sole reason of being NejiTen ficcage, and I don't think that's quite fair. But anyways. Enjoy the story. And please check out my profile. I have a poll up about a new story I'm considering making.

Neji snuck a glance at Tenten as she trained. He was supposed to be meditating, but the way she moved somehow had a way of distracting his attention every time. She dashed forward, tanto in her right hand, to slash at imaginary enemies with a very real ferocity and grace. Pirouetting, the brunette lashed out with a tessen in her right hand, one she'd pulled out of seemingly nowhere. Abandoning the weapons, she quickly switched her mode of attack to a kata with a naginata she'd summoned from one of her scrolls.

Red, Neji thought. Red, like the color of the blood she used for summons, suited her well. It was power and fierceness and energy, all put to one cause. Yet as she slowed her movements in a slower but no less deadly kata, he changed his mind. Red would work for someone, perhaps, who didn't know when to hold back or slow down. Sometimes, though, Tenten displayed the serenity that red could never portray. Sometimes she displayed the sensibility someone who was only fierce and strong could never show.

Tenten, Neji decided, was a perfect example of force tempered with equal amounts of steel. Never driven by emotions solely, nor ever truly devoid of emotions, she was a mixture of both. So Neji mixed red with blue and mentally painted Tenten in shades of purple.

Neji was meditating again. While practicing with weapon after weapon, Tenten sometimes watched him out of the corner of her eye. He didn't like for her to be distracted in the midst of her training, she knew, but she couldn't help it. Even sitting still, he was fascinating. His eyes were closed and his breathing was slow and even, serenity oozing from every pore of his body. Everything in him spoke of the deepest of reflections and a supreme calmness befitting the genius child of the Hyuuga clan.

Blue, Tenten decided. Blue, like the color of the sky behind him, suited him well. It was reflection and calmness and serenity, all brought together. Yet as his strong shoulders rose and his straight back stayed rigid, she changed her mind. Blue might work for someone who never knew determination or leadership and power. Sometimes, though, Neji showed the immobility blue would never provide. Sometimes he exuded the fortitude someone who was only calm and deep could never show.

Neji, Tenten thought, was the epitome of silence and strength blended together in harmony. Never acting out of weakness, nor ever all-powerful and unchanging, he was the blending of both. So Tenten mixed blue with red and mentally painted Neji in shades of purple.

Right before twilight, blue from the sky and red from the sun joined, purple betwixt and between the two. Tenten put down her weapons, and Neji opened his eyes. Sitting down, they came together in a purple harmony, Tenten's head on Neji's shoulder, Neji's hand around Tenten's shoulders, and their dreams merging together.
