"Your warm."

Kurama blinked, feeling heat pool into his stomach. "Am I," he asked, voice masking any turmoil he felt.

Shizuru nodded lazily, resting her head on his shoulder. "Tell me, are all demons this warm, or are you just a special case."

"I assure you, there are a plethora of demons who have irregular body temperatures. Hiei, being one."

Shizuru hummed. "So, tell me something about you."

Kurama almost broke. His composure stiffened, and something deep, deep, inside of him swelled with pride. Demon pride.

Kurama shivered.

"I don't believe you'd find me very interesting. A mundane theft such as myself has little to no story to tell."

"Bullshit. Botan tells me you and Hiei stole a few artifacts from Koenma last year. That didn't sound mundane."

Kurama felt himself flinch. "You know of that?"

Shizuru smirked. "Trying to hide secrets from me?"

"I wouldn't dream of it."

"Good, because I'll know if your hiding things from me." Shizuru shifted, reaching over to play with the ends of Kurama's scarf. "So, your thieving days?"

Kurama swallowed thickly. "I started out small, stealing trinkets no one would miss…"

He told her a few tales, recalling moments where he had slipped between guards, broken locks, solved puzzles, and escaped with the treasures. Never once did he notice the way their fingers wound together, until he felt Shizuru squeeze his hand.

"Sounds like you had fun," she said.

Kurama nodded. "I did."

"You going to steal from me too?"

"No—" Kurama swallowed. "I would never."

Shizuru chuckled, her breath winding between them. "Relaxe. I'm kidding."

"... yes, of course."

A bout of silence passed between the two. The wind picked up, throwing around leaves this way and that. Shizuru watched, taking time to glance down at their hands.

"You really are warm," she muttered into his shoulder.

Kurama arched an eyebrow. "We discussed this already, I'm simply one of many who—"

Shizuru shook her head. "No. Your warm," she repeated.

"Shizuru?"

"It's a puzzle. Your good at puzzles, so I'm sure you'll figure it out."
