I'm Not That Girl

By: RDH

Frontier Brain Anabel sat beside the lake, watching the sunset. It was beautiful, with the orange turning pink, then purple, then dark blue as it reached up into the night sky. All was calm and peaceful, and a soft breeze rustled the grass a bit. In the forest, Pokémon of all kinds were getting ready to turn in for the night, while the hoot-hoot and noctowl hooted in the distance.

Anabel sighed sadly, knowing that the evening was not completely perfect for her. Her eyes glistened wistfully, and she wished that the one special boy, for her at least, was here with her. The determined boy with a Pikachu and big dreams, dreams of becoming a Pokémon master, Ash Ketchum.

Anabel blushed and smiled at the thought of her crush. She thought he was brave, determined, kind, innocent, sweet, and cute. And his skills were amazing. It was no surprise that Anabel had fallen for him.

She sighed and her expression turned sad. As much as she had openly showed her feelings, he had never caught on. Besides, he already had a special someone in his heart. She had seen that and who it was while giving his mind a once-over with her psychic powers before he had left the gym.

She sighed again and looked out at the lake. She sang softly "Hands touch, eyes meet. Sudden silence, sudden heat. Hearts leap in a giddy whirl." She smiled. "He could be that boy," her smile disappeared, "but I'm not that girl."

She looked at the sunset and sang "don't dream too far. Don't lose sight of who you are," she smiled sadly and sang "Don't remember that rush of joy. He may be that boy, but I'm not that girl."

She looked up at the quickly appearing stars and sang "Every so often we long to steal a taste of what might have been." She looked at the ground and put her hand to her heart as she sang "But that doesn't soften the ache that we feel when reality sets back in."

She sighed again and looked at the lake, singing "Light smile, light of limb. She wins some," she sighed, "she wins him." Anabel lifted her hand a mimicked playing with someone's hair as she sang "red hair with a gentle curl." She dropped her hand to her lap and sang "that's the girl he chose, and heaven knows," she sighed again, "I'm not that girl."

Anabel looked up again. She saw a star fly across the sky. Shaking her head, she looked back across the lake. She sang "Don't wish…Don't start. Wishing only wounds the heart." Tears formed in her violet eyes as she sang "I wasn't born for the rose and pearl." The tears flowed down her face as she sang "There's a girl I know…he loves he so." Her voice cracked and she sniffled before she sang "I'm

not…that girl." Then she buried her face in her hands and cried, cried for the love of a boy that she wanted but could never have. After all, she wasn't her…she wasn't that girl.
