Just a cute little drabble about Arthur realizing that he loves Gwen. FYI I do not own any of these characters.
Arthur had spent all his life knowing that he would marry for love. So when it just hit him one day that he was in love it just took his breath away. It hadn't even been a romantic moment or anything. He was just walking down the hall and Guinevere turned the corner. In that moment, with her hair escaping her bun, sweat on her brow, and a flustered look when she caught sight of him, he realized that he had lived in the same palace with the love of his life for years, and never even noticed. This breathtakingly beautiful lady had worked for Morgana for as long as he could remember and until recently he hadn't even given her a second look. He had ignored her. She was a servant. Why did she matter? But now he realized just how wrong he had been. Being a servant had nothing to do with anything, anymore than his being a prince had anything to do with it. He loved her. He loved the way she smiled when she saw him. He loved the way she would listen to everything that was said and pretend she didn't. He loved how even in the middle of a crowd of beautiful women she would fade into the back. Even when they both knew she outshined them all. He loved her voice. He loved how when she was upset she would work harder to distract herself. He loved her so much that he wanted to just sweep her into his arms right there in the hallway.
"Are you feeling alright Arthur?" Arthur jumped. While he had listed all the things he loved about her in his head she had walked up to him. He blushed a little and looked into those hypnotizing eyes.
"I'm fine," She looked suspicious, but just said:
"Okay then. I guess I'll be on my way then," Guinevere turned to walk away, but Arthur grabbed her arm at the last second. She turned around confused.
"You look very beautiful today Guinevere," She blushed and looked down. She opened her mouth to argue but he stopped her. "I don't want to hear any excuses, you look beautiful. Like you do everyday," He smiled and Guinevere practically beamed down at her shoes. When she finally looked him the eyes he saw that whether or not she agreed with him she appreciated the complement.
"Thank you my lord," There it was. The one thing he tried to forget. The only thing standing in between them. Their status. The only thing that said that they wouldn't be perfect for each other. Arthur grew very serious and looked her right in the eyes and he said the thing he meant more than anything in the world.
"I don't care what it takes, we will be together someday. I promise you that," She looked a little stunned. He was stunned too, but he bent down and kissed her on the cheek before heading away. He didn't know how yet, but he knew that without Guinevere his life wasn't quite complete.
