Was listening to Just A Dream by Nelly, which I totally recommend listening to while reading this :) Just a small little drabble. A What if? What if he was betrothed to Arwen or had to marry her as some Kingly duty? What if he loved another but she died long before she could see him crowned and taking up the birthright he had ran from for so long. I'll update my other stories tomorrow at some point.
Enjoy!
Aragorn stood looking into the mirror, gray eyes met gray eyes, they were tired and wary. His armor shined in the light that came through the window, waxed and polished for the happiest day of his life. At least, what should have been. His hair framed his face, little wisps gently touching his face. He closed his eyes remembering a different soft touch from warm fingers; a giggle followed.
"What are you doing love?"
His heart softened at the words, the words were spoken quietly. Remembering you. He could feel her smile and then a quiet humming followed soft words following after.
"Et EĂ€rello Endorenna utĂșlien, Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-metta!"
The voice sang it gently while a deep ache settled deep in Aragorn's heart. He knew the words, had sung them himself.
"Do you remember?" the soft voice asked, "You must do this, for your kingdom, for your people, and most importantly, for yourself."
He felt hands on his arms he wanted to open his eyes but was afraid that if he did she would disappear. How did it come to this? How could any of this be fair? It should have been her and no one else.
"Life can be unfair; this you know better than anyone else. If you cannot do this for yourself, then do it for me. Be happy, have children. Do everything we wished to do one day and know, I'll be watching over you."
He felt breath over his lips and they naturally parted, another softer pair met his. His body relaxed; his mind filled with peace and love as their lips met for the last time. And when it was over, his hair was brushed away from his face and the voice whispered one last time, "My heart is yours, now and forevermore, I love you."
And then it was gone. Gray eyes opened and his own reflection stared back at him in pity. A sigh fell from his lips that still tingled. A knock came at the door, "My King, the ceremony is about to start."
He could do this, he could do it for her. He picked up his crown and settled it upon his head. With one last glance in the mirror and the King that stared back at him, he left the room.
He was no longer Aragorn, the Dunedain Ranger from the North, the man who fell in love with a simple, yet beautiful woman. He was a King; a King set to marry Arwen Undomiel, daughter of Elrond, Lord of Imladris.
He could do this, he would do this. But he would do it with his heart belonging to another. One who would always be his first and only Queen.
And as King Elessar walked towards his unchangeable future, he let go of Aragorn, Dunedain Ranger from the North so he could forever be with his Queen.
"I love you too."
This made me sad :( Tell me what you thought ;)
The song is sung by Aragorn at his coronation, it translate too:
"Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come. In this place I will abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world."
MUAH~
