Chapter 1

"An Abandoned Amusement Park"

August 29, 2005 is a day that the people of New Orleans, Louisiana will never forget. A monster came to their city, a monster named Katrina. When she finished her rampage, what Katrina left behind was a flooded city that caused millions of dollars in damages and enormous losses of life. One of those areas of New Orleans that was severely damaged was Six Flags New Orleans, a theme park outside of the city that was owned by the Six Flags corporation. By the time Katrina had hit, it had only been in business for 4 years and it was a theme park with a promising future until Katrina hit and took that promising future away.

Hurricane Katrina in a sense destroyed Six Flags New Orleans, with the owners deciding to leave it alone to rot and ever since then, vandals snuck onto the property leaving destruction within their wake. It was such a shame to see such a promising theme park just go to waste, but that was what happened.

However, with the abandonment of the park came a sense of danger that was meant to serve as a warning to those who would try to brave arrest to explore what was left behind.

It all started on New Year's Eve while everyone was more than likely anticipating the beginning of a new year, a pair of teenage boys decided to pay the park rather than spending time with their families, if they had any.

"Ponyboy, are you sure about this?" asked one of the boys. "I mean, the fuzz is always out and about."

"Relax, Johnny," answered Ponyboy as they crawled underneath the fence protecting the park property. "We've got a video to make and we are going to do it. If anything, everybody is celebrating the new year. Now, come on."

So, they went into the park, braving the cold winter winds. Holding a video camera in their hands, the teenagers advanced into one of Six Flags New Orleans' many abandoned parts. Little did they know that as they walked around, a mysterious figure was stalking them. Soon, they found themselves in front of the Spongebob Squarepants 4D attraction.

"Mother…" gasped Ponyboy, looking up at the defaced logo of the attraction with the video camera. "What did they do to you, Spongebob? Do you guys see what I see here? This is Nickelodeon's popular character with the lack of respect that was given to him."

As Ponyboy spoke, the sounds of rustling were heard from one of the abandoned buildings and Johnny began to get very nervous.

"Did you hear that, Pony?" he cried.

"Johnny, come on! I'm trying to film here!"

"But, Pony, I…"

"If anything it's probably nothing, so suck it up!"

No sooner did he say that did the rustling stop and the two boys made their way into the building.

"What you are seeing here," Ponyboy continued is the inside of Spongebob with its abandoned theater and an opening that was more than likely meant for the screen."

Then, the sounds of the rustling resumed. Once again, Johnny tried to get his friends' attention.

"Cut it out, Johnny!" Ponyboy protested, pulling his arm away from him roughly. "Look, if you don't want to be here, then get out!"

"We should go," whimpered Johnny.

"Not until we…"

Suddenly, Johnny noticed a shadowy figure that resembled a jester standing behind Ponyboy and let out a sharp scream. Before Ponyboy could react, the figure stuck a knife into Ponyboy's shoulder and repeatedly stabbed him several times. With Ponyboy falling dead, Johnny attempted to flee, only to be tackled and stabbed to death as well.

"That'll teach you for coming onto my property," the shadowy figure whispered as he proceeded to drag the two bodies out of the attraction and towards a pond in the center of the park. Throwing the bodies into the water, the figure watched as two alligators came up and munched on the two dead teens.

Then, the figure heard the sounds of fireworks in the distance meaning the beginning of the new year.

"Another year has started," he said, walking away from the pond and towards an abandoned attraction called Jocko's Mardi Gras Madness. "But it doesn't mean anything, because they will just keep coming here. Everyone was told to leave this city, but I never will leave here. This is my home and I will stay here with the hope that one day, I will bring this park back to life."

The figure looked up at the rotting animatronic that stood atop the attraction and proceeded to walk inside.

The next morning, it was New Year's Day, but word of the two missing teenagers spread quickly throughout New Orleans. Back in our hometown of Providence, we were sleeping in from celebrating the New Year when our phone rang. Waking up, I reached for the phone and answered it.

"Hello?" I asked, groggily.

"Agent Jones?" I heard a male voice say on the other line. "Can you get down here as soon as you can?"

The sounds of the urgent voice of our superior made me wake up instantly.

"It's happened again," our superior said. "Another murder has taken place in New Orleans."

"But, I thought that…"

"It's not enough. The city of New Orleans has asked the FBI to take over the investigation. You and Agent Blake must get down here immediately."

"Can you give us an hour, sir?" I requested, taking notice of my girlfriend and partner, Daphne Blake, slowly opening her eyes. "We watched the ball drop and…"

"Do it," our superior interrupted and hung up, leaving me somewhat bewildered. Nevertheless, I immediately got up and grabbed a white dress shirt and red necktie.

"Freddie," yawned Daphne, taking notice of what was happening. "What's going on?"

"We got to get to the office," I said. "Get dressed."

"Can't I at least shower first?"

Rolling my eyes, I motioned for Daphne to do just that. It took 45 minutes, but she managed to throw on one of her many purple dresses while I just put on a shirt and tie with a pair of khakis and a sport coat. Climbing into the Mystery Machine, we raced down to the FBI office in Downtown Providence, determined to find out what we were about to get ourselves into.
