A Decision for Wendy

A/N: This is my first Peter Pan book fic ever...

I'm sorry to all those who might be confused, because I wholly based this on the book, not on the movie which was recently produced. I liked the movie...but I will forever love this book.

8:00 o'clock

"Time for bed..."

"But Mother..."

"No buts, Wendy..."

"But-"

"I said no buts-"

"Mother!"

"What is it Wendy?"
Mother, he's here!!"

Mrs. Darling looked up from where she had been sitting, beside Wendy's bed. Wendy lay there, a while ago, but now, she sat straight up, her eyes wide and shining with rapture. Those blue orbs of hers glowed brilliantly, as it turned towards the open window. Mrs. Darling also gazed at that direction-and soon, a familiar and beloved sight soon came. It was Peter Pan.

It was time for Spring-cleaning in Neverland, and he had come to fetch her, and take her back there.

Wendy trembled, with pure joy.

At this Mrs. Darling sighed, "Alright, Wendy..."

"Mother?"

"...You can go with, Peter." Mrs. Darling said in deep resignation.

"O Mother, thank you! thank you!" Wendy cried as she sprung from the bed, kissed Mrs. Darling, and approached her Peter.

Peter meanwhile, asked, "Are you ready, Wendy?"

"Of course Peter..." Wendy replied as she took the hand that he held out to her.

Hand-in hand, they stepped unto the window ledge. Then, with one last look at mother and the

dear nursery, she flew out of the window, to the stars, to Neverland, accompanied by Peter Pan.

Mrs. Darling gazed at he two figures, receding into the darkness. She was smiling. But it was wet smiles, for tears rolled down from her eyes.

"Come back, dearest..." she whispered softly.

Then, turning her back from the window, she returned to the low seat she had placed a while ago.

There, she laid her eyes, quietly upon the two remaining children, who peacefully slept in their beds.

Once again, she sighed.

She let Wendy go...again. Even though her heart knew it was something that would eventually break her daughter's heart. It wasn't really because, Peter was evil, nor because she didn't like the boy. It was more of the sad fact that someday, beautiful, cocky, indifferent Peter would forget Wendy, and knowing how the little girl loved Neverland and that boy, Mrs. Darling was sure that her daughter would cry.

And Mrs. Darling didn't want to see her children unhappy. She loved Wendy, John and Michael so very much, and was determined to keep them gay, innocent and heartless. But how?

Thinking deeply, she sat there for many minutes.

The night lights soon gave out. And yet, Mrs. Darling did not move a single inch.

Time slowly passed...

Then suddenly--very suddenly, Mrs. Darling came up with an idea.

Slowly, she stood up as if that thought required immediate action. She started to pace around the room, as if debating this new plan, and her hands began to wring in distress.

"Impossible...possible...impossible... possible..." she was heard to have muttered.

Can her heart take it? Will her sons and husband understand it? Will Wendy understand it?

She started to pace again.

"Impossible...possible...impossible... possible..."

Then, she stopped.

Her gaze strayed to her sons in slumber.

That sweet picture calmed her heart, and soon it strengthened her resolve.

Softly, she kissed Michael, then John, as if to take their blessing. Then, slowly-ever so slowly, she walked towards her window.

"Time to explain to George later..." she whispered as she gazed out the view. There, she especially lingered upon a lovely, bright star-that was, strangely, second to the right.

Tears glistened upon Mrs. Darling's eyes.

Then, after sighing a great big sigh, she closed the window and shut it tight.
