The Birth of a Legend
"So what do you think?" Cham asked, holding up the matching trench coats and fedoras for Phantom Girl and Timberwolf's inspection.
"You're kidding right Cham," Phantom Girl asked, choking back a giggle, "Right Cham?"
"Superman told me about spy movies from old Earth and I had Brainy pull up old footage," Cham said.
"Weren't you the one that laughed at Superman when he mentioned them?" Phantom Girl pointed out.
"Well, yeah, but that was before I watched the movies," Cham responded.
"Whatever," Phantom Girl said, rolling her eyes, "I'm not wearing those."
"Oh yeah, well..." Cham began, but Timberwolf had shaken his head.
"You're not getting me in that, than I'll feel like I'm on the run again," he'd explained.
"Oh, yeah, sorry about that," Cham said.
"Look Cham, it's not a bad suggestion per se," Timberwolf began, trying to soften the blow.
"It's just stupid," Phantom Girl finished.
Cham had stalked away at that point and Phantom Girl had looked slightly guilty until she saw Timberwolf's glare.
"What? It was stupid," she defended.
"Cham's idea about having a covert team wasn't bad though," Timberwolf began.
"What you mean be all secret agent like in those old movies?" Phantom Girl asked.
"We do have the skills and abilities to blend into areas."
"Yeah, but why would the Legion even need to do something like that, I mean that's completely the Science Police's thing."
"Maybe it's for missions the Science Police can't handle, or don't want to handle…"
"Okay now you sound like Cham."
"Fine. Whatever," Timberwolf said, waving one hand in the air as he walked away.
"Humph, boys and their stupid espionage….thing," Phantom Girl said to herself and then felt a hand on her butt.
"Hey! What the hell!" she cried, twirling around, "Cham you better have just missed!" she yelled at the empty space.
"Oh, I get it, morphed yourself small huh? Well, I'll find you," she said, getting to her hands and knees to look for him. Suddenly her cape was flipped over her head.
"That's it!" she yelled, ghosting and twirling around, "where are you Cham!"
Sinking through the floor Phantom Girl stormed into the conference room, stopping dead when she saw Cham and Timberwolf talking in front of her.
"Okay how did you get here so fast!" she demanded.
"Here? I've been here for five minutes," Cham said.
"Yeah, right! A likely story," Phantom Girl began.
"It's true, we've been talking," Timberwolf cut in.
"Well, then, you, I," Phantom Girl sputtered.
"What's wrong…?"
"What happened?"
The guys stumbled over each other. Phantom Girl stared at them both for a minute, slowly calming down.
"I felt someone grab me in the other room, but when I turned around no one was there so I though it was Cham," she explained.
"So there was no one there at all?" Timberwolf asked.
Phantom Girl shook her head.
"Let's check the monitors than," he said, pulling up the room they'd been in.
"Hmm the scanners say the room is empty," Timberwolf said a few minutes later.
"I guess it was my imagination," Phantom Girl began, "though I could have sworn."
"Well it had to be your imagination," Cham responded, "it's not like there's an Invisible Kid or something roaming around here."
