I Knew You Wouldn't

"Draco, you know what you have to do. We've captured the mudblood and gotten the information we need, so we will leave you to it." Lucius Malfoy said to his son and walked out of the room closing the door behind him.

Draco turned to the slumped form of Hermione Granger, who was currently tied to a chair tears streaming down her face. His father had captured her to get information on Potter; even though Voldemort was gone for good Lucius was still determined to finish off the boy-who-lived. It had been surprisingly easy to get to Granger, she hadn't married Weasley like everyone had expected, and she was currently the only one in the golden trio not in any relationship whatsoever.

She looked up at him, "You won't do it."

"What are you talking about Granger?" he sneered.

"You won't kill me; you couldn't kill Dumbledore and you won't kill me, it you were going to I would be dead by now." She stated simply.

What she said was true, he thought. He couldn't kill Dumbledore, he didn't want to do his father's bidding anymore and he was going to find a way out. "You're right."

"What?" she asked shocked.

"I said that you are right. I'm not going to kill you both of us are going to escape, I do not want to do this anymore." He walked over to her and cut the ropes with his wand and she stood up.

"Um thank you. Do you have my wand?"

He reached inside his coat and pulled it out handing it to her, "Yes, here you go."

"So how exactly are we getting out?" she asked.

"Well" he said walking over to the window "we are only on the second floor and I believe there is a vine going down the wall. We can climb down and once we get outside the gate we can apparate somewhere safe."

"Good idea. Is there anything you want to take with you?"

Draco thought for a moment, "No I am leaving everything here, I want to start fresh, but we will need to stop by Gringotts so I can clear out my fault before father takes everything."

He opened the window and looked down, "Ladies first?"

She smacked him upside the head, "No in this case it will be stuck up slytherin men first."

"Fine Granger." He heaved himself out of the window and shimmied down the ivy vine. "Alright your turn." He called up to her.

She copied Draco and climbed down the wall of Malfoy Manor, "Lets get out." She whispered when she got down.

"Alright follow me." They hurried to the gate in the shadows of the shrubbery and in less than a minute they were through the gate.

Hermione looked at Draco, "Thank you so much." She had no idea why she did it but it felt right, she leaned up and kissed him.

He didn't react at first but after a moment he kissed back, they broke apart, "No thank you; thank you for giving me a reason to finally get out."

Thirteen Years Later

Draco waved to his son as the Hogwarts Express took off and he kept waving as the train slowly disappeared. He felt his wife's arms snake around his waste.

"Don't worry you'll see him soon Christmas break isn't that far away." She said.

He turned around to look at her, "Yes I know, it's just Hugo is the last to go off to Hogwarts, it seems like it was just yesterday that both him and Rose were babies."

"Speaking of which I have been meaning to tell you…" She didn't finish because Draco picked her up and twirled her in a circle.

"You're pregnant aren't you!" he exclaimed.

She laughed, "Yes, now will you put me down."

He obliged and set her on the ground and kissed her, "I don't know how many times I have said this but I am really glad I didn't kill you." He smiled.

"I knew you wouldn't."
