This is just a little more in depth than the original parting scene between
Bryan and Dom. Just my interpretation
Dom climbed cautiously behind the steering wheel, gingerly handling his injured arm. He winced and bit down hard, defiant of the pain shooting through his shoulder as he closed the door. He glanced at the battered and bloody wreck of himself in the side-view mirror. "Objects in mirror are more painful than they appear," he thought cynically, allowing himself a half smile.
Dom turned the key in the ignition and felt the car growl and purr around him. The pulsing power flowed through the car, intoxicating. It was a ten second car, Bryan had made good on his bet. Bryan the cop. The smile vanished instantly, leaving no evidence that any emotion other than boiling anger had ever crossed his face. Dom jerked the car into gear, ready to peal off into the setting sun and leave his back-stabbing cop showered in dust…..but he stopped. He was stopped by the man standing alone behind his car. He watched Bryan in the rearview mirror. He studied every line and curve of his face, a face he realized he might never see again.
Dom's features had been contorted in rage, but were now softened by the pained look on his enemy's face. He saw shame and sorrow in Bryan's eyes that he had never seen before. Shame and sorrow so deep, they seemed to suck Dom in and wash away all the hatred he could ever feel for Bryan. Bryan had just lost everything. He had lost his love, his car, and more than likely his job. How could Dom despise him for being a cop when Bryan gave it up to protect him?
Dom felt a lonely tear streak down his cheek, tracing a crystal path through the blood and grim. A tear for Jesse, a tear for Bryan, a tear for himself. He couldn't remember the last time he cried, but it seemed like the right time now. He looked back at Bryan's face and saw that a single tear had creeped from the corner of his eye down to his chin. A tear to match Dom's own.
The sirens grew louder in the distance. Dom revved the engine and looked into Bryan's eyes. Bryan tipped his head in a small nod towards Dom, encouraging him on his original plan of pealing off into the sunset. And he did. Dom raised his hand in a tiny salute and hit the gas. They each watched the other until they disappeared over the horizon. The simultaneously wiped away their own lonely tear, wishing they could wipe away the ache in their hearts just as easily. They now went off alone to face their demons, knowing that they had lost the best friend they would ever have.
