Silver Bells

Its two weeks before Christmas and L is trying to find something for his secret darling...

Snow fell gently onto the street, sticking to the now ice cold cement.

Tokyo was well decorated for the season: street lamps had either red ribbons or red and white Christmas lights wrapped around them. Shop windows had displays of Santa's workshop or the North Pole for children to stare at with red curtains (either painted or real) tied back to give the display a stage like appearance.

L Lawliet walked down the shopping district, looking at each window for something that he noted she'd like. But there was nothing that he knew she would really, truly, deep from her heart love.

He sighed and stopped to get some coffee. He noticed a jewelry store that he hadn't look at yet. Entering the store, he glanced around before deciding there was nothing.

A glint of silver caught his eye.

A necklace stared back at him. The pendant was two silver bells joined together. He inquired the clerk about the necklace.

A few minutes later, he left the shop with the small wrapped package bearing his gift to her…

Christmas morning, Sunako Nakahara woke late. The boys had let her be much to her delight. She saw a pile of presents waiting for her to open them.

She wondered why they weren't out in the parlor with the other presents, but she passed it out of her mind and decided to open them in a few minutes.

Taking them to the parlor, she went to take a shower and make some breakfast.

After doing so, she examined her own gifts, as though trying to figure out what the boys and Noi got her. She noticed a small package among her pile and glanced at the small card.

To: my beautiful darling

From: LL

Sunako smiled and opened the gift—one wouldn't hurt…

She examined the necklace before clipping it behind her neck.

"Jingle bells, Batman smells…" Kyouhei sang from the bathroom.

Sunako went to her room and picked up her special cell phone. She speed dialed a number.

"You're up! I figured I wouldn't hear from you until tonight."

"Sorry to burst your bubble," Sunako said, sitting cross legged on her bed. "I love it."

"Are you sure?"

"L, it's wonderful. Seriously, you don't have to try so hard every holiday."

"I know, but I want to try hard for you."

Sunako shook her head. "I'll see you tonight."

"Tonight."

Sunako hung up and examined the necklace again.

The boys didn't know about him—her secret darling. And that was the way it was going to stay.
