We all know it's Halloween, so this is a little something I came up with.

Let all us Potterheads take a moment of silence

To remember the implications of this dark day

When thirty years ago in Godric's Hollow

A little boy's parents were taken away.

It was a dark night and a dark day for all

When a single man was able to break

A home, a family, a child's life

For he was no man; he was a snake.

The father was a handsome, smiling man

The mother was laughing with her little son

For one moment, everything was perfect

But a few minutes later, it was over, done.

The brave father fended off the Dark Lord

But he fell, he fell like a hero true

The mother had only one thought remaining

To protect her child from You-Know-Who.

"Not Harry!" She cried, begging and pleading

To spare her son and take her instead

And that gesture of supreme love

Was an inexplicable bond, unsaid.

A flash of green light and she dropped to the floor

Her last breath living on in her son

As the attacker surveyed him, he wondered

Could this small child really be the one?

He raised his wand and cast the spell

But to his horror the boy did not die

Instead the Dark Lord crumbled to dust

And the little boy began to cry.

On this day thirty years ago

A mother's love saved a life

On this day thirty years ago

The wizarding world lost their strife.

Let us spend a moment of silence

To commemorate the immense pain

Of a one-year old boy with a lightning scar

And celebrate the wizarding world's gain.

Let us remember the sacrifice

Of two parents for their child

For although a great loss was incurred

The wizarding world smiled.

For gone were the days of evil

Gone was evil, gone was fear

But at what cost? That

Which they all held dear.

So remember Lily and James

And it is plain to see

That without them

Where would Harry Potter be?

Let us not forget Harry Potter

The boy who lived, the chosen one

He waltzed into our lives one fine day

And a story magical spun.

Today is a day of sorrow

Today is a day of joy

Today is a day of memories

Of the story of a little boy.

Phew! That took longer than I expected :S Anywho, review :) I'd like to hear your thoughts. Never really done poetry before.

Harry Potter forever :')
