Returning the Favor

Treize Khushrenada walked silently down the long corridor of the hospital. His footsteps echoed throughout the hallway. step, step, step. As he walked past, OZ soldiers and doctors saluted to him. He didn't salute to anyone; his hands were clasped behind his back. However, he nodded to those who saluted him.

Turning around a corner, he headed to room 201, one of the intensive care rooms.

"Sir, I'm sorry, but Lady Une is-" Treize put his hand up to silence the doctor.

"I need to speak with her," Treize tersely replied.

The doctor let him pass, but he wondered how he would have a conversation with someone in a coma.

In the room, which Treize walked into, Lady Une lay still except for her weak breaths. There were wires on her, and a breathing mask on her nose and mouth. The only thing covering her was a simple sheet.

"My Lady, it pains me to see you like this." Treize spoke as he pulled a chair up to the side of Une's bed.

He reached over, and took one of her hands into his own. Her heart beat fluctuated a tiny bit, as shown on the monitor by Une's bed. Even a little fluctuation, something any other person wouldn't notice meant a great deal of things.

"You are the world to me, Lady Une. You have helped me with everything, including making my ideals a reality. Now is the time that I feel I need to help you, but I cannot do anything. I feel worthless." He paused and stroked her long brown hair; "I miss you, my Lady. I truly do. You have always been there for me, and now I will return your years of hard work. I will stand by you until the end." Treize took the rose off of his uniform and placed it on Une's chest, where it lay between her breasts. He placed a kiss on her lips and pulled away, watching. Une's lips twitched, as if trying to curve into a grin. Treize smiled and squeezed her hand gently.

"Now get better, my Lady." He let go of her hand, and laid it at the rightful place, at her side.

Her turned and walked out of the hospital room and out into the corridor he had walked through only moments before.

"I have to attain total peace. for Lady Une!" Treize said to himself.

Back in the hospital room, Une smiled for the first time in days.

(Author's Note: I'm thinking of using this story as a prologue to a Treize/Une story I've been getting ideas for, which takes place after the war. Reviews are appreciated! ^^)
