She dug the moat with care, patted the rising mound of rock and sand into a mountain firm, and then built the fortress, solitary and strong, at its peak.
It would have taken a moment to erect with her wand, but this was something for hands and Muggle labor. A labor of love and memory - summer weekends on this shore, building castles with her parents back when wizards were a thing of fantasy stories and she'd never heard the word Muggle. Back before she'd had to erase herself from her parents' minds and remove every trace of her existence from their memories.
Hermione stood, surveying the fortress and wondering how long it would hold against the tide ...wondering when and if she would able to return to restore it.
AN: Originally written for Blue Skies prompts at LJ. Hermoine erasing herself from her parents' memories really struck me and that scene was beautifully worked in the movie.
