Pondering Observations
"I still can't believe that-"
"They got Blake up there to sing." Spencer offered humorously. "I mean never would I have ever imagined her getting on that stage."
"I'm sure she was thinking the same about you kid." Derek laughed as he settled into his chair even more.
With the night more than half gone and everyone in a joyous mood it was easy to relax. "Now if only Rossi gets Hotch up there."
That sent Spencer's gaze in Hotch's direction, immediately bringing a laugh to his lips.
"I think Rossi's going to really make good on his earlier threat and pull Hotch out of his chair." It sure looked like it.
"I think..." Derek paused as his babygirl decided to hit a particularly high note.
He wasn't sure whether it deserved a cat call or a cringe though he settled on a chuckle as he continued.
"I think that if this night gets any more interesting I'm gonna have to start selling tickets."
"You'd see a better profit margin off of DVD's." Spencer spoke factually as he supplied, "Hotch has been videotaping most all of the night."
"So I've noticed." Derek nodded. "I'm starting to wonder if this won't turn out to be leverage to blackmail us all with later."
"It's probable."
The way in which Spencer shrugged wide eyed and worriless made him smile.
He was certainly envious of the innocence this kid had somehow managed to keep despite the pain and loss he had faced.
"Hey Morgan,"
So busy he was at getting lost in absolutely nothing that he barely heard Spencer calling for his attention. "Hmm?"
"What can't you believe?" He waited curiously for his answer as he fiddled with the straw in his glass.
"Excuse me?" Derek's brow was bent in concentration; trying to find the meaning of the question.
"Earlier you said that you still couldn't believe that, but never finished the thought. So what isn't believable?"
Spencer stared on with something close to intrigue; as if a great secret would soon be revealed.
"Oh" Derek smiled as his mind wandered back to previous thoughts. "I was just thinking about how eventful this day has been."
"How so?" Spencer wondered even as he watched Garcia and Blake join in the hounding of Hotch.
"Are you kidding me Reid?" The look Spencer turned on him clearly said no so he continued on with slight amusement.
"You saved an innocent baby today kid. My pretty boy delivered a pretty boy and you might not think so but that's amazing! I'm proud of you."
The actual pride he saw in Derek's gaze embarrassed him slightly.
Those words meant more to him than the other man could ever imagine. "Thank you"
"Nothing to be thankful for kid, that was all you and you did good." Derek swore as he reached over to ruffle the younger mans hair.
He meant more with those words than there definition would ever reveal; more than the kid would ever understand. "You did real good."
