He wasn't sure when it happened, how his life came to this, but as he sat looking around at the people before him, all he could do was smile.
He'd always been a lone wolf, solitude was his best friend; attachments were dangerous. Since Aimee he'd never let himself get close, never let anyone in and life had been good. He could have whatever woman whenever he wanted them, just for a night or two, only for fun. He worked hard and played hard and enjoyed his life.
That was until they came along.
He'd always shy'd away from working with people, too messy, you couldn't rely on them, too much could go wrong, but with these guys it was different. As much as he would never admit it to them, they were all the best at what they did, hacker, thief, grifter and mastermind, all knew their roles and played them to perfection, most of the time, but one thing was for sure, they'd all grown to care about each other. They were now a family.
He hadn't known there was something missing from his life until he found them, until he relaxed into their company, but now, here he was, sitting in an apartment, on some random day, watching the people that, other than his biological family, he cared most about.
There was nothing special about that day.
It wasn't thanksgiving, or Christmas or someone's birthday. They weren't working on a job and it had been a few weeks since they'd actually been on a case, but somehow, they hadn't scattered as had been the custom in the beginning. They were just here, hanging out, enjoying each other's company.
Eliot Spencer took a long drink of his ice cold beer and smiled as he watched his friends, his family and realised for the first time in a long time, he was truly happy.
