"Hear You Me" by Jimmy Eat World.

Quigley ruffled his fluffy brown hair, and it flopped into his eyes.

Sighing, he left the flowers he'd been holding, wedged into Violet's apartment window.

The card attached was a 'no-hard-feelings?' card.

There's no one in town I know

You gave us some place to go

I never said thank you for that

'thought I might get one more chance

He then climbed down the floors of the building, the knife of regret inching down his spine.

What would you think of me now?

So lucky, so strong, so proud

I never said thank you for that

Now I'll never have a chance

He was at home a little while later, packing his belongings, when the realisation of how stupid he was fell like a brick.

May angels lead you in

Hear you me my friends

On sleepless roads, the sleepless go

May angels lead you in

He raced back to the apartment, flicking open his phone and dialing her number.

She answered, and he looked up to see her on the balcony, examining the flowers.

And if you were with me tonight

I'd sing to you just one more time

A song for a heart so big

God couldn't let it live

"Hey," he answered, but she hung up on him.

Then, to his surprise, the flowers landed around him, having been thrown off the balcony and torn free of their wrapping.
