Oneshot

AN: hi i don't know WHERE thi idea came from. I wrote it all in about an hour and a half though lol . It's not really shounen ai but i think some will see it that way.

Disclaimer: I do not own prince of tennis

He had seen the way Sakuno Ryuzaki gawked at Ryoma Echizen, but he also noticed the disinterest of the other boy. Ryoma was apparently not yet interested in girls. Both he and Ryoma were a bit similar. They were among the best on their team, they were confident sometimes to the point of just plain cockiness and conceit. They were 7th graders in a league dominated by older looming and gigantic opponents. They were generally well liked but that's where the similarities ended because, as already stated, Ryoma was apparently not yet interested in girls. And Kentaro definitely was!

So for all of his and Ryoma's apparent similarities (and the added bonus of being interested in girls) he thought it would be a plain and simple and practical conclusion that Sakuno would choose him. But Sakuno didn't seem to have the same chain of thoughts.

"So let me get this straight," the pig-tailed lass stammered, clutching her bag tightly before her. "You want me to go on a date with you?"

"Yes. Don't you like tennis?"

"I do…. But, that's irrelevant!" Sakuno's face heated up in frustration. "I don't even know you! I'm just here to buy grip tape!"

"Well…" Kentaro took a step back as if to size up her comment. "You do bring up a good point."

Kentaro may have known Sakuno, of course. Who wouldn't? Almost every male tennis player in the area knew her, Tachibana, and that loud Tomoka, as they were usually the cutest spectators at nearly every game. But it seemed a bit unreasonable for those beautiful ladies to even remember every boy that hit a small yellow ball over a net. So here he was in a sporting good store on a mission to buy some grip tape when he happens to run into (ryoma's) Sakuno. What luck! So he promptly proceeded to as her on a date, apparently overlooking all of the previous information about girl to boy ratio at his tennis matches.

Kentaro grinned, "Well then… let me introduce myself. I'm Kentaro Aoi. I go to Rokkaku and I'm in the 7th grade and I'm the captain!"

The girl tilted her head as if she were thinking and then her eyes lit up.

"Ah! I'm sorry!" She bowed low. "I didn't realize!"

"Aw it's ok Ryuuzaki-san… so, how about that date?"

It was now Sakuno's turn to take a step back. "No thank you. I'm just here for the grip tape."

"Aw but—"

"Sorry!"

And before either could say more Sakuno grabbed the tape and made a dash down the aisle for the register leaving Kentaro yet again rejected for the 1xxth time in his short life.

"Mada mada dane."

Kentaro turned to see Ryoma coming down the isle, scanning the shelves idly.

"Were you talking to me?" Kentaro asked.

"Maybe."

Silence.

Kentaro grabbed the grip tape he originally came in for and let out a tired sigh.

"There's more to life than girls," Ryoma stated.

Kentaro turned his head sharply to where Ryoma stood.

"Like?" Kentaro asked.

Ryoma smirked, "Like Tennis."

Kentaro returned the smile. That wasn't surprising. Only someone a simple minded as Echizen could say that… ok and maybe that Captain Tezuka too. Kentaro shook his head.

"and…" Ryoma continued, his smirk widening, if that could be believable.

"and?"

"and boys."

Kentaro's mouth fell open!

"EW! That's—That's just gross!"

Ryoma just chuckled at Aoi's objection, walking off and laughing all the way,

"Your voice is too loud."
