Dialogue: (Elf) Sam and Roiben Novel: Tithe: a Modern Faerie Tale Author: Holly Black Written by: Geeeksam311 -

Sam: (sweetly) Hello, Roiben.

Roiben: (disinterested) Hello, Sam.

Sam: So I hear you are a king now. Your sister tells me you called the oath, "Hear me and know the compact I offer. The solitary fey have gained seven years of freedom, but seven years will pass in the blink of an eye. Bind yourself to me now, Unseelie and Solitary alike, and I will give you all of Samhain. Freedom from dusk until dawn forevermore" (Black 327) right in front of Silarial.

Roiben: (tiredly) You have heard right I am king. (Sternly) But show some shame elf! Silarial was your Queen last time we have conversed, address her as so.

Sam: Oh, but no you are mistaken friend. I have cut my bonds with Silarial in hope to pledge myself to you.

Roiben: (fervently) No! You mustn't, foolish elf. Unseelie is not for the likes of you! You are little more than a mere girl who played with Ethine in the apple forests. I will not curse you to the unseen horrors of my new court!

Sam: (defiantly) But King you must, for I have no other court to go to. Plus I have pledged myself to you. That leaves you only two choices: accept me or banish me. The Roiben I know would not banish me to Ironside. (softly) You wouldn't do that to me.

Roiben: (pained) Fine, I accept your pledge, welcome to my court.

Sam: Good, I am glad to be at your side my King.

Roiben: Give it a rest Sam, we have known each other since babe-hood you have no need to call me anything but Roiben.

Sam: Thank you, friend, do know you have my heart.

Roiben: You mustn't give me your heart I have non to give back.

Sam: (mischievously) Kiss me and I will not give you my heart and ask for a quest.

Roiben: (alarmed) Do not tell me you have talked with the pixie named Kaye.

Sam: Why of course Kaye and I have began a friendship. She told me the tale of her stolen kiss. Do you remember it well? She told you "Give me a kiss" (Black 160). Then you scolded her saying ""There is no time for your snatched pixie pranks," he said. "If you want me to leave quickly, you best be quick."" (Black 160). She was brilliant and you had to give her a kiss.

Roiben: I remember it. Kaye sure is something, but I will not give you a kiss Sam, the circumstances are different.

Sam: (disappointed) Oh well, there are certainly other ways to get you to kiss me. Kaye showed me another.

Roiben: (angrily) What did Kaye show you?

Sam: Oh nothing, but your name.

Roiben: What!

Sam: She told me when she learned it. You had given her three questions in return for helping you take out that arrow. ""What's your full name?" He looked like he would choke on the air he breathed. "What?" "That is my third question: What is your full name?"(Black 80) She was brilliant but unaware of what she asked of you but you weren't very as result. You said ""You are too clever by half. Too clever for your own good, I think."" (Black 80) So she again unknowing said ""Kiss my ass, Rath Roiben Rye."" (Black 81).

Roiben: Grrrr.

Sam: Ha! Now you have kissed me.

Roiben: (annoyed) I should kill you for knowing my name and using it so.

Sam: (playfully) But you won't.

Roiben: Sigh, no I won't. You are too dear to me. Don't do it again. You are dismissed elf.

Sam: Goodnight, Roiben.

Roiben: Goodnight, Sam.
