Caroline glares at Damon when he points out how much of a cliché she is one night.
"I am not a cliché!" she yells, sitting up in bed, pulling the sheets with her.
Damon rolls his eyes and puts his hands behind his head, looking relaxed as he elaborates. "You're a young, eternally beautiful vampire who is in love with someone she'll never be able to have forever so you're currently sleeping with your maker to numb the pain."
She opens her mouth to deny his comment, but finds the words die on her tongue. "I'm not the only vampire in the room with a cliché hanging over their head," she mumbles defensively.
"Enlighten me," he says bemusedly. "What's my cliché?"
"You're the typical reformed serial killer who stopped only because he fell in love. You just happen to be of the vampire variety. You also hold an eternal resentment for the people who brought about your turning—if that isn't cliché, I don't know what is," she diagnoses, wearing a smirk of superiority.
"You're one to talk!" he throws back at her, both fighting the urge to laugh and fighting the urge to shut her up before she says anything more. She's close enough to the truth as it is.
She looks at him curiously for a minuet, not sure what he is referring to. "I don't hold any resentment to the people who played a part in my turning," she says quietly after a few moments. "I regret not having been informed of my choices before I made them, but I don't really regret turning—I probably wouldn't have done differently even if I knew I'd fall in love with Tyler afterward. I certainly don't regret what you did for me that night."
His turn to look at her with a curious expression. "But that night at the carnival, when you spoke to me…." He trails off, not sure how to tell her he remembers when she managed to knock him off his feet and push him down a hallway. He doesn't have to say the words, however. She already knows.
She laughs. "I hated not that you turned me, but that you used to compel me all the time. I hated that you drank my blood without giving me a choice." She smiles and leans down to kiss him. "Now, you can't compel me. And I get to drink your blood too."
