Chapter 1: Midsummer's Day Part 1: Will

A/N: Sorry about this chapter being so short. I will assure you future chapters will be longer. XD

Will began walking to Mary Malone's house, with his daemon closely behind him.

Today is the day, he thought. Today is actually THE day. I never thought it would come. A year had passed since he had last seen Lyra. Time really does fly.

Kirjava jumped up into his arms.

"What time were we supposed to meet Dr. Malone?" she asked.

"Around 11:00," Will replied, looking down at the pavement on which he was walking. The cars were moving around pretty fast. It was also hot outside.

"An hour before we meet Lyra," Will said.

"AND Pan," Kirjava finished, but she knew he wasn't listening. He was too deep in thought.

Stupid rule, he thought. If we wouldn't die ten years after we entered a new world, then me and Lyra could be together...forever.

Will turned a block and found himself looking at Dr. Malone's mansion a 100 meters away. Will sighed.

"What's the matter, Will?" Kirjava asked. "Thinking of Lyra?" Suddenly, Will was hit by a man and tumbled to the ground.

"Watch where you're going kid!" the man growled.

"Sorry," Will muttered kindly.

"Will, you got to pay attention where you're going," Kirjava said.

"I know, I know," he pleaded. "It's just, I can't stop thinking of her. I'm so excited."

"I know you are," Kirjava said happily. "I just can't wait to see Pan, as well."

Will walked into Dr. Malone's mansion a few minutes later. He walked around a bit, looking for her, but eventually found her in her study.

"Ah, Will," Mary said putting some papers away in a draw. "How are you today?"

"Fine," Will said.

"I can tell you figured out what today is," Mary said.

"Yes, I have," Will said. "Something like today is a day I dare not forget."

"You're still in love with her?" Mary asked. "After all this time?"

"Yes," Will said. "And I always will be. I will never see her, but later today, I will feel her prescense, sitting beside me as I hold her on that day." A tear began running down his eye.

"I see," Mary said, biting her lip. She did not want to bother Will during an emotional breakdown.

"Well, Will, I believe it is 11: 50," Mary said. "I suggest you use your time wisely, and get over to the spot where you are to meet Lyra." Will bid farewell and headed down to the Bontiac Garden.
