She
is running
A
hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction
She
is trying
But
the canyon's ever widening
In
the depths of her cold heart
So
she sets out on another misadventure just to find
She's
another two years older
And
she's three more steps behind
After the Logan Incident they went their seperate ways.
He didn't want to have anything to do with her anymore.
He heard about the boat.
He really didn't want to know, but news like that gets around.
It was disappointing.
How far the mighty of fallen.
Truth be told he was bitter about it. T
he whole incident.
He really cared about her, but with time the dull Rory-sized ache in his chest started to lessen.
He went out with other people.
But that ache never really went away.
Life moved on.
After Logan he stopped bartending for awhile, but honestly it was one thing that he was really good at.
And eventually the simple need for money forced him to start working again.
He never expected to see her again.
Sometimes he want to see her more than anything.
Othertimes if he never saw her again it would be too soon.
Most often he really didn't care.
But yet when it did happen Marty really wasn't prepared.
Does
anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or
does anybody even know she's going down today?
He had a gig serving at some high society event.
And there she was.
She looked perfect.
Flawless.
It was a very busy night for him.
He still found plenty of time to watch her.
Being a bartender really isn't that bad of the job.
The best part is hearing the tidbits that slightly buzzed older ladies let drop.
Through this he learned more than he really wanted to know about this new Rory.
She was fully integrated into society.
She was still with Logan.
She was considered to be the perfect example of what every good girl should be.
It was shocking to say the least.
She
is yearning
For
shelter and affection
That
she never found at home
She
is searching
For
a hero to ride in
To
ride in and save the day
And
in walks her prince charming
And
he knows just what to say
Momentary
lapse of reason
And
she gives herself away
She had become this muted version of who she had been before.
She had become the person who Logan wanted her to be.
Everyone at this party thought that she was perfect in every sense of the word.
He wondered how anyone could even think that.
She flitted through the room, all smiles and bubbles.
But the cracks were there.
A half an hour into the party and she was on her 3rd rum and coke.
He had seen a lot worse, but for Rory - for the Rory he knew- that was a lot.
He wondered if he was really the only person who could see this,
Who could see how much she wanted out,
How much she didn't belong here.
Does
anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or
does anybody even know she's going down today?
It was late when he was finally done.
Everyone was gone.
Everywhere was silence.
As he walked out he shouldn't have been surprised to see her sitting out there.
Out here, Alone, She looked more like herself. And she still took his breath away.
Against his better judgement he say down there next to her.
"Hey" he said.
"Hey" she said without even looking at him.
They sat in silence.
He wanted to ask Why? Or yell at her Or just say something.
But he could see that's not what she needed.
So he put his arm around her. She buried her face in his shoulder and he could feel her start to cry.
"Shh it's ok." he whispered in her ear. "It's going to be ok. I'm here now. It's going to be ok"
And so he was thrown headfirst back into the Rory Drama.
And he has to ask himself… "Does anybody see me?"
AN: The italics are the lyrics from a song by Casting Crowns called Does Anybody Hear Her. They seemed to fit. I would love to hear what you think.
