"So... Ron proposed last night?" he asked with uncharacteristic sorrow in his tone. She looked down, ashamed for doing this to one of her best friends.
"Yes," she whispered with guilt coating her words.
"How?"
"We went to dinner and the ring came with dessert. Ron got down on one knee and asked. And, well... I said yes," she explained, sounding unsure of herself.
"Oh," his eyes were glimmering with unshed tears.
"I just don't know if it's the right choice."
"You don't have to marry him, princess. You could always choose someone else. Someone like... me," he pointed out. She watched him for a moment to see if he was serious, for he never really was. But this time was different.
"I... I can't," she breathed. A girl with pretty yellow hair in a dark corner of the room whispered something about Hooblesnunk eggs and hearts.
As Hermione ran out of the Burrow, Fred finally cried, unaware that the blonde girl was watching.
"We've got so much to do, Mione!" His sister bubbled, giggling and jumping around, "We have to get a dress, a band, a cake... Oh, I don't know where to start! Let's get Mum and Fleur to come with us to Diagon Alley and go shopping. It's the perfect way to get ideas!"
"Ginny, I'm not planning on having the wedding for quite a while. How about we wait and do this later?"
"No, Hermione! We need to hurry if we want to get everything done in time for next May! That only leaves... eleven and a half months to get what we need!"
"Come on, Gin. We shouldn't rush. Ron needs to come with us, anyway.
"He won't care what it looks like as long a you become Mrs. Ronald Weasley!"
Mrs. Fred Weasley sounds better, filled the minds of Fred and Hermione.
Hooblesnunks are awful creatures, the blonde one thought.
The day had finally arrived. Her wedding day.
She could hear shouts coming from Ron's room just down the hall. Luna Lovegood stood behind her and fixed her veil while rolling her eyes at the ruckus.
"I don't understand. If you love Fred, then why marry Ron?" the blonde asked quietly so Ginny couldn't hear from her spot at the window.
"I honestly don't know Luna. I've just been with Ron for so long... but Fred... I've loved him since my fourth year at Hogwarts."
"Oh, I see. The Hooblesnunks have been laying eggs in your heart," Luna said as she finished pinning on Hermione's veil. She looked over to where Ginny was standing impatiently at the door, "Ginny and I better leave now. Give you some time with your thoughts."
They left the room, and Hermione collapsed onto the vanity in front of her. Just as the first tear rolled down her cheek, a knock sounded on the door.
"Come in!" she cried out softly. Fred pushed the door open and walked until he was standing just behind her.
"A little birdie told me that I should clean out the Hooblesnunks from your heart..." She gave a little laugh, "You look beautiful today, princess."
"Thank you."
"I wish you did this for me," Fred lifted up a tamed curl as he spoke.
"Me, too."
"Then come with me," he gestured at the broomstick in his hand. Hermione's eyes widened.
"But what about Ron? And the family?"
"Luna has had quite the crush on my brother. And the rest won't mind as long as we're happy."
"The Hooblesnunks might."
"'Atta girl! Hop on, Mione! You're in for a bumpy ride!"
For the first time in a year and a half, Fred and Hermione were truly happy.
