AN: Since season two just started it has reignited my Durarara obsession. I seriously loved the anime! This fic takes place just before the Slasher attacks in Season One. I will be trying to incorporate more characters and cannon events as I progress with the story. Rating is subject to change.
Thanks for Reading! I hope you enjoy!
Shizuo Heiwajima was pissed, royally pissed. Ikebukuro seemed to be getting crazier by the day. With the recent slasher attacks, human trafficking, and gang wars it was all but a war zone. But Shizuo could have cared less about that. His eyes shifted around the room recognizing only a few faces. He knew when he started working with Tom that the loaning business was established, but he hadn't realized that so many worked for the boss. Many of those employees were now shoved in the tiny office. The boss had called a rather short notice meeting, instructing everyone to be there. Why? No one was quite sure. Shizuo breathing deep itched at the idea of leaving to have a cigarette but changed his mind when he noticed Tom looking so nervous.
'This has to be some serious shit' he thought. As if on cue the boss opened to door quickly, startling the occupants in his office. He made his way to his desk followed by a young woman. Every person in the office watched with judgmental eyes and whispers erupted. It pissed Shizuo off even more, what was this high school! The girl made eye contact with no one as she closely followed behind but her heart raced.
New city, new job, and now everyone looked as if they didn't even like the sight of her. Taking even calm breathes she reminded herself that she had dealt with much worse, this was nothing. Sitting on the edge of the boss's desk she finally addressed the room with a hard stare. Her dark green eyes darting around the room, for debt collectors she thought they didn't look so bad. This wasn't exactly her ideal place of employment but given the circumstances she was glad to be there.
"If I could have everyone's attention, I'm glad so many of you could make it on such short notice. First I would like to thank you all for the hard work, collections have never been higher!" The boss said happily. "I want to thank Tom and Shizuo for bringing in the most this month, those two never let me down!" In response everyone turned to look at the two men in the corner. The girl noted that one with shoulder length dreadlocks smiled, placing his hand behind his head in a show of embarrassment while the other looked as if he was having the worst of days. Clearing his throat the boss got everyone's attention again.
"As you may have heard I am opening up an office in Shinjuku. so profits are gonna go through the roof! This being said however with the numbers we have now our current employ roster just won't cut it. Thus I decided to hire a few more hands. "Murmurs erupted around the room as people discussed the changes.
"But Boss, how can we know that these people can be trusted!" Someone finally shouted, opening the floor to more complaints.
"Yeah! We have all worked together for so long, we're like a family! Bringing new people into the mix just doesn't seem right!" another yelled.
"We have been with you Boss from the ground up, this isn't right!"
Shizuo blood was racing faster and faster. These bickering fools were driving him mad. Without realizing it his hands began to crush the top of the seat in front of him, the metal crumbling beneath his strong grip. Tom could practically hear the sound of Shizuo's jaw clenching.
"Cool it man" he said in hushed tones, the last thing he needed was Shizuo beating the shit out of someone in front of the boss or throwing something in the overcrowded room. Reluctantly Shizuo's hands pried themselves loose, leaving deep indentions. Crossing his arms Shizuo tried to calm down. Quickly his eyes focused on the only calm thing in the room which was the woman sitting on the boss's desk.
She remained completely motionless as she took in the scene. Watching as the grown men began to act like children. She looked a bit odd in this room full of men. Her dark hair was pulled back into a high ponytail, but even still its length hit her waist. She sat with her legs crossed and her arms securely across her chest. Dressed in all black with a leather jacket she looked like just the kind of person someone shouldn't trust. Shizuo couldn't put his finger on it, but he knew he didn't like her.
"Enough!" The boss yelled, and the room instantly fell silent. "I have vetted these people myself and they have proven to be just as loyal as anyone in this room!" A slight look of disbelief moved about the room but no one dared speak up.
"Even without your knowledge they have been working alongside you for nearly a month now!" He continued. "I hadn't really anticipated this kind of reaction, I apologize" he said to the girl. She gave a sweet smile before replying
"It's no problem." Sighing she stood from the desk to squarely face her fellow employees.
"Well without further ado, I would like to introduce our new transporter, Mia." The boss said gesturing toward the girl. Shizuo whom had been trying to ignore the entire situation perked at this.
'A new transporter? What happened to using Celty?' he thought. Now he knew for sure he didn't like the girl.
"Our previous transporter is not always available" the boss said answering Shizuo's line of thought. "So I hired Mia here to pick up the slack, and to my surprise she has quickly surpassed the productivity of the Black Rider." With that new side glances and whispers exploded.
'That can't be! There is no way this little brat could be out preforming Celty!' Shizuo yelled in his head. His hands clenched into fists. It just couldn't be! Celty was supernatural beyond anything Shizuo could understand but more than that she was the only person that didn't completely piss him off. There was no way this stupid woman was going to interfere with his friend. He needed a smoke and if he didn't leave now someone would definitely be going through a window or wall. Silently he made his way to the door. No one seemed to notice but Mia.
She watched as the tall attractive blond moved from the corner. He had a serious expression. Finally making his way through the crowd he opened the door. Suddenly a tearing noise reverberated throughout the room. Everyone watched in fascinated horror as the entire door was ripped from its frame. Wide eyed the girl couldn't believe what she was seeing.
In the first few weeks of her moving to the city she had been warned about where not to go and who not to piss off. And one of those people had been Shizuo Heiwajima a man merely described as a monster with unbelievable strength. 'This has to be him' Mia thought. As Shizuo turned to apologize to the boss his eyes made contact with hers. And in that instant, Mia knew, she had somehow pissed off the one person she was never supposed to.
