a/n: This is an idea I had while listening to the song "How To Be A Heartbreaker" by Marina and the Diamonds.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything Harry Potter related, and the italicized lines at the beginning and end of chapters are song lyrics from How To Be A Heartbreaker by Marina and the Diamonds, so I don't own those either (there are none in this prologue but there will be in future chapters).
How To Be A Heartbreaker
~prologue~
Ginny's eleven when she falls in love with Harry Potter. She's eleven when she stares at him through peepholes in the wall to Ron's bedroom, and when she watches him de-gnome the garden, peeking out the window carefully so he won't see. She's eleven when she realizes she gets butterflies in her stomach whenever she sees him, and she's eleven when she realizes how lost you could get in his green eyes.
She's eleven when she meets Tom too. Tom, who visits her in her dreams at night. Tom, who's the prettiest boy she's ever met. 'My mum says pretty boys will break my heart,' she writes to him. 'Please don't break my heart.'
'Why Ginny, you think I'm pretty?'
She gets butterflies in her stomach when she sees him, too. Her stomach churns, but not out of love. It's more like she's been poisoned. His eyes are different than Harry's too. They're frosty and unwelcoming, with a cold beauty to them. When they land on her, Ginny thinks he can see straight into her soul.
Harry doesn't like her. (Tom doesn't either). When he saves her in the chamber, sweeping in like a white knight astride a noble steed, for a second she's hopeful. For a second she believes that he loves her just as much as she loves him. He doesn't.
Her heart shatters. (For the second time that day).
She cries that night, in the bathroom after everyone has gone to sleep. (She never stops crying, does she?)
When she looks in the mirror, she sees blue eyes. Cold, beautiful eyes. (Tom's eyes).
"Poor little Ginny, always getting her heart broken."
He steps closer and she can feel his breath, icy cold, on her skin.
"How would you like to be the heartbreaker from now on?"
She turns around and he's gone.
She sighs with relief.
She can still feel his breath on her skin.
