A/N: Lorelai's and Jess' relationship has always interested me, because they are just so much alike and it makes them clash. So I came up with this, it takes place right after Rory comes home. So just please read and review. Because reviews are always good. Like coffee.

Lorelai held the number in her hand. Should she call? What would she say? She took a deep breath and dialed the number.
Ring. Ring. "Voicemail please. Please get voicemail." She mumbled.
"Hello?" A groggy voice answered the phone.
"Um, Jess?"
"Yes. Who is this?"
"It's Lorelai. Please Jess, don't hang up. I mean, I know we don't get along but I really want to talk to you." Lorelai crossed her fingers that he wouldn't hung up and waited to see what would happen next.
"I'm listening." Jess was skeptical. He couldn't think of why Lorelai was calling. What could she want?
"Right. Okay. Listen, I just really wanted to thank you for your help with Rory. She told me that you came to visit her. Congratulations on the book by the way. Anyways, I don't know what you said to her, but it really helped her get back on track."
"Is she back at Yale?"
"Yep."
"Good."
"Yeah, it is good, isn't it?" Lorelai smiled, maybe Jess wasn't as bad as she thought.
"Lorelai, if you don't mind my asking but... how did you get this number?"
"I stole it from Luke. He doesn't know I'm calling you. Oh! Speaking of Luke, I don't know if you knew this, but Luke and I are engaged."
"Congratulations. Or best wishes. Whatever you say to the bride."
"Thanks. Anyways, I wanted to know if you wanted to come to the wedding. We haven't even set the date yet, so this isn't some pity invite right before the wedding. It would mean a lot to Luke, and me, if you came."
"Sure."
"Really? That's great. Well anyways, I should be going. I need to get back to work. Thanks for everything Jess, really."
"No problem."
Just as Lorelai was about to hang up the phone she heard Jess calling her name. "Yes?"
"I just wanted to tell you... but I really appriciate your calling. I know we never exactly saw eye to eye."
"Yeah well, give credit where credit is due, I always say. And you deserve credit for helping Rory."
"I'll see you around, Lorelai."
"Bye Jess."
Lorelai hung up the phone, happy with the way things went. She wished she had given Jess a chance all those years before, maybe if she had, things might've turned out differently. Maybe Jess would've felt more confortable talking to Rory, because he wouldn't have to worry her mother's dissaproval. Then maybe he wouldn't have left, and he and Rory would've stayed together. Then she never would've met Logan, took that job, stole that boat, or dropped out of Yale. Then none of this would've ever happened. Then again, maybe not. She'd never know.
