Chapter 1

The sun beat down...ever so softly on the Village hidden in the leaves. Kakashi Hatake sighed as he walked along the street to the meeting place where he was to meet his squad for the first time. He mused to himself as he walked, "So I get an even mix of students. The mediocre Sakura, the genius Sasuke, and the unpredictable loser Naruto Uzumaki...Still can't believe that kid beat Mizuki...must be pretty tough and pretty dense to attack a chunin like that."

Kakashi had been given the rundown on his three students. Sakura Haruno was a unremarkable kunoichi from a civilian family. Her strength was chakra control. Sasuke Uchiha was a gifted genius with a talent for just about everything. And Naruto...the Kyuubi's container, was an over active spaz who couldn't sit still and who didn't think about anything before he did it. That last description had been straight from the Lord Third. He found it amazing that he would have such misfortune. He thought, "I can almost see it unfolding. The Uchiha will be arrogant and dismissive. Naruto will be predictably unpredictable and he'll act like a complete idiot. Sakura...hm...not sure about her, but from what Iruka tells me she will most likely be head over heels for the "Cool kid". This is going to be taxing."

He opened his Icha-Icha book and began to read as his feet took him to his destination on his own.

Naruto stumbled and fell. His neck was bleeding. He could feel the hot rush of blood going down into his orange jacket. He thought to himself as he dragged himself to his feet. "Damn! What the hell was that thing. It came out of nowhere. Ouch! It hurts...shit..." He had been late to his meeting with the rest of his squad already. But now he had to go all the way back to his apartment to get a change of clothes because some freaky bat thing had taken a chunk out of him. He silently cursed whatever type of animal it had been. His neck was burning like fire.

His apartment door opened and he quickly moved to the bath room, where he stripped off his jacket and shirt. Both were soaked with blood. Red was still pouring down his neck. He grabbed a wash cloth and shoved it under the faucet. Then once it was soaked he pressed it into his wound. "ARRRGFGGGG!" It hurt so bad...it made him see stars. Blinking he wiped the area around the wound and pulled the cloth away. "What the...?!" There were two slashes in his neck where the...thing...had bitten him. Naruto vaguely remembered that some animals had a toxin in their saliva that made wounds bleed a lot more than they should. "That must be it. No way these little cuts could bleed this much otherwise."

Naruto slapped a bandage onto it. He didn't have time to take care of it properly. Instead he winched a tourniquet onto it. As hard as he could to keep the pressure on the bandage. After he was done with that he hurriedly washed the blood off his chest and his hands. After that he ran into the other room to grab new clothes. He slipped on one of his less used jackets. This one was also orange, but it lacked the white collar. Naruto put on a black shirt first to cover up the bite. He didn't want anyone giving him a hard time about it. No doubt Sakura would take the chance to demean him in front of Sasuke. "That prick... I swear one day I'll put his head through a wall...and I'll do it way before I become Hokage. He doesn't have that long to wait!" Naruto pulled on the jacket and dashed out of his apartment. He jumped from roof top to rooftop in order to get there on time.

He had been going fine for a few minutes, but soon his neck and shoulder began to throb. Naruto thought, "Such a pain...I put the tourniquet on too tight." He continued on despite the growing pain. It wasn't long before he caught sight of where he was supposed to be. "Huh!? Kakashi sensei still isn't here?" Naruto landed with a grunt of pain. It made his head spin for a moment.

Sakura and Sasuke were there already...of course. Sakura with her pink hair and less then cheery disposition...actually... Sakura was quite happy at the moment. Naruto thought, "Yeah I bet she's been hugging all over that jerk..." The thought crossed his mind that Sasuke looked even more annoyed than usual. "Serves him right." Sakura asked, "Naruto...! Why are you always so late?!"

Naruto grimaced in pain...and agitation. He said, "Listen Sakura. I'm not feeling good right now...could you give it a rest!"

Sakura looked at him in shock. She thought, "What is up with Naruto? He's never like this...and what does he mean by , he's not feeling well. He always jokes about never getting sick and always being in top shape. The idiot would never admit that he was hurt...Must be an act." She said, "Yeah...nice excuse for being late Naruto baka.

Behind Sakura, Sasuke's eye twitched, "Will she ever shut up?"

Kakashi looked up to the roof of the building where he could hear voices. He thought, "I guess everyone is here." He crouched and leaped up to land on the hand rail that bordered the roof. Sasuke was sitting of to the side with his chin resting on his hands. He managed to pull off bored and superior at the same time with great success. Sakura had gone silent when she realized that their sensei had arrived. Naruto was wincing...probably from her shouting in his ear.

Naruto on the other hand was not like Kakashi imagined. He was a bit rough around the edges. He had extremely unruly blond hair, deep blue eyes, and tanned skin. He was wearing a dark orange jacket and black combat pants..."Not the usual outfit...?" He looked annoyed. Kakashi said, "Ok everyone I hope you're feeling ok because this is our first day as squad 7." Sasuke's eyes flicked towards him, while Naruto and Sakura just turned their heads to listen. Kakashi continued, "However we aren't actually a team yet. Before I accept you as members of team 7 you have a test...but that's for later."

He settled into a sitting position, facing the three kids. He said, "First I think it's time to get to know each other a little better." Kakashi expected Naruto to leap up and shout his life's goal...not that Kakashi didn't already know what it was. The kid was obsessed over becoming Hokage. But Naruto didn't jump up. Kakashi raised an eyebrow. "Ok...no one wants to start. How about you Sakura. What are some of your likes and dislikes and what is your dream for the future?"

Sakura blushed and looked at Sasuke...who remained purposefully ignorant of the attention. She said, "Well someone I like is..." She looked at Sasuke. "And my dreams of the future are..." Her blush deepened as she started to scoot towards Sauske. Kakashi asked, "And your dislikes?" Sakura's head whipped to where Naruto was sitting. Kakashi thought, "Ah...at least two of my predictions are spot on." He said, "Ok Sakura that's enough. Sasuke...How about you?"

The Uchiha continued to look forward as he spoke, "There's not many things I like...and there's a lot of things I dislike...As for my ambition. It's to kill a certain someone." Kakashi mentally sweat-dropped, "Jeeze this kid is a bit morbid...No surprises there though." Finally he turned to Naruto who had actually closed his eyes. Kakashi thought, "Wow...He isn't the spaz that everyone says he is. He seems a lot calmer than I expected. And he hasn't said one outrageous thing yet."

Kakashi asked, "Naruto? Dislikes? Likes? Dreams...?" Naruto opened his eyes. He said, "I like ramen...and training. I like playing pranks and...sleeping in late. I don't like bullies or mean people. My goal...is to become the greatest Hokage." Kakashi thought that he must be losing it. The way the kid said it...he actually thought that it was true. "Naruto has something...not sure what though, but seeing who his parents are...It's not that I wouldn't expect it."

Kakashi sighed and said, "Ok...now that we know each other a bit better. I think it's about time I tell you where the test will be. Go to training field 7 tomorrow morning at 8 O'clock. I'll be there for the test. If you fail my test...you won't just fail to become part of my squad...you'll all go back to the academy!" Sasuke looked up in shock and so did Sakura. Both of them gaped at him. Naruto stood up and said, "I'm...not...feeling...very good...See you tomorrow sensei..." Kakashi watched Naruto as he jumped to the next roof top and then to the next. He was soon out of sight. He couldn't help it. He asked Sakura, "Is he usually like that?" She shook her head and even Sasuke shrugged in confusion. Kakashi wondered what was wrong with Naruto...

Pain...it was excruciating. Like liquid fire being injected into his blood. It was like someone was beating every inch of him with a electrified bat. He had barely been able to get through that meeting. It was like trying to take a test while someone was pulling your fingernails out with a pair of pliers. Naruto was on his bed, twitching every few seconds as a fresh wave of pain hit him.

This shitty feeling crawling up his body. Like he was weighed down. He tried to lift his head, but he...couldn't even do that. Naruto felt sweat dripping all over his body, almost like he was running a marathon. He prayed that the misery would stop soon. This was...too much...

The cool air from the window ghosted over his skin, soothing his tenderized nerves. It had been awful. He couldn't even cry out. His voice had been paralyzed. Naruto lifted his head. He was so sore, but at least he could move. Four hours at least. Four hours of constant unbearable pain, but he didn't faint. Now he was lying in his sweat soaked bed, as his body slowly recovered from the..."What the fuck was that...? I...don't even know what caused it. It was like I just started to feel it when Kakashi showed up and it got worse."

Naruto slowly, hesitantly, sat up. The whole room spun around him. He laid back down but the room didn't stop moving. Sitting up again didn't improved the situation. Naruto used both hands to steady himself. This was his room and it wasn't...supposed...to ...move. A massive pang in his stomach alerted him to his hunger. Once he realized that he hadn't eaten since breakfast his mind centered on food...like a drone locking onto a target.

He jumped out of bed with surprising grace and moved to the refrigerator. He yanked it open and pulled out everything he had. Then he opened up the cupboard and pulled out six packages of instant ramen. He got down to eating.

Forty minutes later he was full, but still just as hungry as he started. And thirsty too. He had found out how dry his mouth was soon after he started eating...and ...nothing was improving on the problem. Naruto's nose felt cold...like a dogs too. He wondered if he was getting sick. "I never get sick...not even once since I can remember. What is wrong with me. I ate enough food for a whole day and I'm still starving and my mouth feels like I swallowed a piece of sandpaper."

He begrudgingly decided that he had caught something...somehow. Naruto found fresh clothes again. He bundled himself up and opened the door to go outside...

He was back in the room with the door slamming behind him before he could scream. "AAAKKKKKKSSSSHHHIITTTT!" Naruto lay gasping on the floor. His face and hands felt like someone had scraped the skin off with a cheese grater and then poured lemon juice on him. Fortunately... thank the Kami...the pain stopped quickly. He rolled over and let his breathing slow back down.

Minutes past before Naruto dared to get up again. He groaned and flexed his hands, while moving his facial muscles. His skin felt stiff and uncomfortable as though he had burned his whole hand. Naruto moved to the window and drew the shade back.

Immediately he shrieked in pain and jumped back across the room. His face and hand burning again. His eyes were wide as he tried to look at the light pouring across the floor. It was too bright. Not like sunlight, but like staring directly at the sun. Naruto again let his breathing slow... The pain receded and he warily stood up. He walked over to the window, just out of the range of the light and looked outside. It was still a few hours till dark. The buildings outside were bathed in light. Naruto had developed a nearly instant dislike of it. He took a cautious step forward, the illumination from the window reached his knees. He slowly pulled up the leg of his pants...and the light touched his bare feet.

Naruto fell back out of the light and bit his tongue to prevent from crying out again. He thought, "Why is the light hurting me?! This is messed up! How the hell...!" Naruto stood and inched along the wall. He darted his hand out and closed the drapes. For a brief second His hand burned and then the light was gone. He sighed in relief. He walked over and dropped into a chair. He didn't know what was going on, but he wasn't sick. Never in his life had he heard of someone being allergic to sunlight. At least that's what it had felt like.

Naruto suddenly felt tired. Unbelievably tired. Like a wave of lethargy washing over him. He yawned loudly and sat up straighter in his chair. He struggled to keep his eyes open. Standing up, he moved to the bed, but he dropped a few feet short. Like a rock he hit the floor. His eyes already closed, he surrendered to sleep.

So there you have it. Chapter 1. Anyway just a few things I seem to get a lot. Italics represent the current speaker thinking in the first person. Also it sometimes indicates when someone is whispering.

Second. I don't have a separate line for every single kami damned person. So if you speed read my story you will miss a lot! Also the amount of space between two paragraphs tells you how much time has passed between to parts. And this symbol is used to show that significant time or distance separates two parts.

Ok so remember to review please...or else!
