"You can't expect us to just blindly follow you Danny. You've already killed someone, killed them while your two best friends were playing on the swings in your backyard, so I'm sorry if I need something more then trust. I need to know why you killed Tara," Lacey insisted, digging her heel into the ground.
"I'm protecting Jo!" he yelled angrily, taking a moment to collect himself, "If she knew… it would crush her."
"I'm sorry Danny, that's not enough." With a grim smile she started back for her car.
"She's my sister."
Lacey stopped dead in her tracks, turning to face her old friend. His hands were stuffed in his pockets and his head was bowed in shame.
"What?"
"My dad was having an affair with Jo's mom, got her pregnant. I overheard Tara and my mom talking about her. My mom knew about Jo, knew who she was and who her father was. My mom was yelling and crying and Aunt Tara was telling her that she needed to take care of Jo, get rid of her and protect the family. I was scared, mom ran out and Aunt Tara saw me. She told me to stay in the house and grabbed a knife from the kitchen. She was watching you and Jo from the window and I thought she was going to hurt you two. I saw the jump rope and I panicked."
Lacey stared at him with her mouth hung open and her eyes wide.
"The Sheriff isn't Jo's father?"
"No."
"Jo can never find out about this."
"I know, why do you think I haven't told her? You know what this would do to her. I need you to help me Lacey."
"Okay, but this isn't for you, this is for Jo."
A/n Yeah so this probably isn't true, but it was my working theory until last night. Hmmm... now I need a new one.
