Summary: Takes place before "Lead". Alex comes back, but John already knew that… because she was already home.
"I appreciate you keeping my secret." Dinner at the apartment Alex Cabot and John Munch shared was quiet, but there was warm affection in her voice. She was just happy to finally be home… with him. "I know I should have returned a lot sooner, but… they told me to keep it all quiet until I felt ready."
"You can't blame me for wanting to keep it quiet." John refilled his glass of wine and offered her some before she let him pour. "You coming back from the dead… again… only means I don't get to have you to myself anymore."
Alex smiled. "Well, things can be like they were before. We can stay up late, drink…you tell me more of your conspiracy theories… make love into the early morning…I just wish… you could have come with me. It would have been easier with someone familiar along."
"And it would have driven me crazy. You know that. I don't trust the government, even if I do work for it in a way."
"Well, there's that." Alex waved her hand dismissively. She knew the real reason. "We could have gotten married."
"Does the fact that I have several ex wives not bother you?"
"It used to. Then I got to know you. John, I love you, but you have the power to drive any woman crazy."
They both shared a laugh and then, he put his hand over hers and then kissed her hand. "I hated keeping this secret for three years."
"It was three wonderful years…. even though…"
"I know it was a front."
"Okay… I just want to make sure." Alex then got up from the chair and then fiddled with the CD player before Frank Sinatra came on and she giggled some more. "Come on, John. Dance With me. Like old times."
"Come Fly With Me" was playing and John got up and they began to dance around the room and Alex rested her head against his shoulder, thinking about how good it had felt all this time… to be home.
He kissed her then and they continued to dance around the small living room… just like old times.
