Hi! Very short hayffie one shot. It's not the best but yeah. Thanks. :3
Effie looked around at the dark cell, coughing slightly. The capitol had captured her, and no one had come to her rescue. She figured she had been in there for at least a month, possibly longer. She didn't have on her usual Capitol attire, no. They took that all away, only giving her a thin hospital gown. No make-up or wigs either. Her actually honey blonde hair was down around her shoulders, in knots. They practically starved her, only giving her a small piece of bread a day, if she was lucky.
She had fallen asleep on the cold concrete, her knees pulled up to her chest. The door to her cell opened and she awoke, hoping it was food. Instead of stale bread and water; it was Haymitch. Her eyes widened as she saw him, wiping her eyes weakly, thinking it was a dream.
"Haymitch." She said very quietly, feeling hope. She prayed to herself quickly that he was going to rescue her.
"Effie.." He said in response, never ever seeing her like this before. His heart broke at the fear he saw in her eyes.
"Please, please help me." Effie cried, barely being able to push herself up, being so weak.
He nodded quickly, knowing he had to get out of there before they both died. He grabbed her small, frail body and threw her over his shoulder before running out of the cell, walking through the lit corridor past other cells.
"Thank you. Thank you so much." She whispered, tears rolling down her cheeks as he took her onto the hovercraft where others were being aided for.
"It's alright." He said quietly as he took her to the nurses station, needing them to clean her up. "I won't leave your side again." He mumbled right as they took her.
An hour later, Effie came back out, looking better. They had showered her, brushed her hair, gave her food, and gave her the mandatory District 13 clothes. He smiled at her, trying to make her feel better, as he could easily see she didn't like the choice of all grey for the clothes.
"Haymitch, these clothes are horrible." She sighed as she sat next to him.
He instantly grinned. He knew she was back to her old self. He carefully rested a arm on the back of her chair. "It's alright, sweetheart. Temporary, I hope."
She shook her head, relaxing a little when she felt his warmth. "I guess it'll have to do. But hey, can we go to bed? They said we'll be on here for a least another day. Can you show me to our room?"
Haymitch chuckled when she said 'our.' It made him feel good to know that she actually wanted to be around him, somewhat. "Sure, let's go." He grabbed her pale hand, helping her up.
"Thanks." She smiled graciously at him and stood up, holding onto his hand tightly as they walked.
He led her to a empty room. It was very very small, but anything was better than that cell he supposed. He sat down on the bed, a slight yawn escaping his lips. "Come here sweetheart, you must be exhausted."
"I am." She nodded as she sat down next to him, laying her head on his shoulder.
He sighed, wrapping a arm around her. "It's alright, I'll protect you." He whispered, kissing her forehead.
This made her smile, finally feeling some happiness. "I love you." She said quietly, pecking his cheek. "Promise you'll stay?"
His smile grew as he pulled her up on the bed, wrapping his strong arms around her protectively, never wanting to let go. "I promise." He whispered before he fell into a peaceful sleep
