Can You Take Me Higher?

-by Elf Legolas

Yet in the days that have come to past...I wish you all to remember my last.

Those words couldn't be his. No. Hermione would not let herself be fooled by some imposter. Harry was as much alive on Earth as in her heart and head.

I've fought all I had, which wasn't enough...I wish to say farewell, but I can't pass the burden.

Harry would never have a letter like this already written out. What am I saying? He's alive. Hermione desperately wanted to believe that. She had to. Nobody else was willing to.

- a month earlier -

Harry was lying on his bed in Gryffindor tower alone. He got up sighing and let his eye catch the window. He walked slowly over to it and opened it to feel a soft breeze. He closed hie eyes and let the sweetness rush over him. He felt refreshed and awakened. Yet...somehow still solemn and sorrow-bearing. He swallowed and resisted keeping his eyes shut.

He walked over to his bed, and picked up his newly bought black diary. It was a recent buy. He hadn't wanted to buy it, for two reasons. One; being that it wasn't very manly, and secondly...after what happened in second year. But Harry wasn't planning on writing anything of much importance, nor using any spell on it. In fact...he was writing his farewell.

-present-

Hermione sobbed gently and felt a hand on her shoulder. Expecting to see Ron, she refused to let herself be seen in such a vulnerable state. She was so disconnected that she didn't notice that the voice wasn't as familiar as she thought.

"I want you to know that I...I'm sorry. For everything."

Hermione sobbed uncontrollably and shook. "It's not...your f-fault," she whispered.

The hand on her shoulder gripped slightly harder and started to turn her around. She closed her eyes, unwilling to look him in the face. He didn't force her to look either. Instead, she heard a soft, serene humming escaping his lips. The words...she found...were poetic and soothing...

oh i feel like i'm alive for the first time...

take these dreams...

and make them mind...

oh i wish you were mine...

morning and moon shine...

take these dreams...

a love like this will last a lifetime...

can you take me higher...

to a place where blind men see...

Slowly, blinking back more tears, Hermione opened her eyes. Before her shocked words could escape, her lips were locked with someone she hadn't expected. She kissed back and then finished the poem on her own...

and here we sit by an ocean or a sea...

i never knew it was you who'd find me...

a gentle touch...

words so strong...

i never knew how long you'd be gone...

and now i stand by you in the sun...

i know now that i am alive....

i don't wanna leave the comfort of this place..

She opened her eyes. It felt like a million years love busting out into the afternoon sun. She smiled slightly and wrapped her arms around him. Amazed, she said his name, which echoed through the grounds for all of Hogwarts to hear.

"Draco."
