Lily's hair fell over her eyes as she slept her breathing slow and deep. James smiled and gently brushed the hair from her eyes, kissing her forehead. She moved and opened her eyes slowly, and seeing James she jumped.
"James! What are you doing home?" she asked as he smiled and kissed her on the lips.
"The Order finished early so I hailed the Knight Bus and came to visit you and Harry before I was called back."
Lily smiled and wrapped her arms around his shoulders, and his went around her waist, as he kissed her neck.
"I missed you." She said kissing the top of his head.
"The Order misses you..Remus said to send his love, and Alice said she would stop by tomorrow to visit Harry.maybe bring Neville along.." James said, his voice growing steadily quieter until he stopped speaking all together.
"Lily.I wish I could-" he began but Lily's hand went to his lips to quiet him.
"The Order needs you." She whispered, an unhappy feeling settling in her stomach. "And we all need the Order."
James looked at Lily, closed his eyes for a minute and then nodded, resting his head against her shoulder.
"I should go back..with all the Muggles out the Knight Bus takes longer then normal."
"Muggles are out especially tonight?" Lily said, turning and looking at James as he pulled off the bed and walked over to where Harry was sleeping in his crib.
"Lily, its Halloween."
Lily threw her hand up to her mouth with a gasp.
"You can't be serious.Oh James, I'm.I'm so sorry.I forgot completely.."
"It's alright love," he said, picking up Harry in his arms. "With the Order in session..and you so busy with Harry.I didn't plan anything."
Lily laughed and got off the bed to walk over to James.
"We'll celebrate our anniversary next year," she said watching James look at Harry. She smiled and looked at her sleeping son and sleepy looking husband.
James leaned over and kissed Lily softly on the lips and put Harry back in his crib. Grabbing his coat, he walked to the door, and a sweeping feeling of panic rushed over Lily, making it hard to breath.
"I love you James." She said as he turned to say goodbye. A strange look flitted over his face and he bit his lip and nodded.
"I love you too." He whispered, and then turned to the crib, nodding in the direction of his sleeping son. "And Harry."
Lily felt yourself crying, and before she knew what was happening James' arms were around her, and he kissed her on the lips and the chin and the cheeks and the forehead and her temple, her tears salty on his lips.
"I know," he whispered as she cried against his chest. "These are hard times. But they will pass." He drew in a shaky breath, "They will pass."
Lily looked at James and his tired and drawn expression.
"It won't always be this way love." He said, kissing her forehead. He smiled slowly and she nodded, determined to stop crying. She kissed him briefly on the lips as he reluctantly let her go.
"Love you." He whispered, walking to the door. "Hug Harry for me when he wakes up." Lilly nodded and James paused at the door, fighting the urge to go back to her. She smiled and he nodded.
"I'll always love you." He whispered, and walked out of the door, pulling on his coat.
