Disclaimer: This is a work of fanfiction, fan meaning I don't own anything and I am not making a cent off of this.
Notes: This was actually written ages ago, and posted now because I found it as I was going through my folders. It was the scene I pictured when viewing one of Seda's memories.
Warnings: Death.

With a heavy heart, Seda reluctantly stepped into the darkness of his father's sickroom, dutifully kneeling at the ailing man's bedside and gently taking one of those frail hands into his own. The healer smiled wanly at him, looking as pale and as worn as his father did through the light of her magic, which was keeping the old king alive long enough for this final conversation. Seda's siblings had gone before, each exchanging a few words with their beloved father before leaving the room before leaving with tears in their eyes. Seda would be the last to speak with him, as he was the first to be born.
"My son...." The old man rasped out, eyes glazed and unfocused, directing at the ceiling. The young prince closed his eyes, pressing that wrinkled hand against his lips as he tried not to cry. The old man's lips quirked up into a smile, seen only by the slightly swaying healer. He pushed his crown, which he had held on tightly to until this very moment, onto his son's head. Seda's head flew up, eyes staring into his father's.
"By the law, and my will..." Shaking hands gently raised the younger's hand to his lips, the father pressed a kiss to his son's hands as the healer stepped away, the light going out as she sunk to her knees. "...My crown is yours." With a smile on his face and his son's hand in his, the old man died.
"Father...." The prince, now king, whispered, clutching that limp hand close. "...What should I do as king?" He asked the darkness, tears running down his face. He received no answer, but silence.
"The king is dead.... long live the king." The healer uttered softly, climbing to her feet and staggering towards the door to inform the other citizens of what had transpired here.
